Acer teams up with Starbreeze to launch a VR headset

Acer is a company which is struggling to find its feet within the competitive tech industry, but Acer is planning to enter the VR market with a virtual reality headset. The company has formed a joint venture with Starbreeze to design, manufacture and market the StarVR headset. There's only one issue for Acer and its new partner — they'll have to compete against Facebook, Sony and HTC.

While Acer has around $1.2 billion in cash, as well as the manufacturing capabilities to aid Starbreeze in bringing this VR dream to reality, it's still a company currently in a downward spiral. This venture will need to pay off but the company may have a slight edge on those who are already competing to establish themselves as the number one solution for VR, as noted in the report on Bloomberg.

"More importantly, Acer knows computers. And computing power is key to any virtual-reality system because of the intense graphics processing required to deliver an immersive 3D video experience."

It'll be interesting to see what kind of VR experience becomes the end product of this joint venture and if it's enough to turn things around for the struggling company.
