Age of Empires: World Domination for Windows Phone delayed until fall 2014

Age of Empires: World Domination, the RTS game from developer KLab and publisher Microsoft, will now see its release for Windows Phone, iOS and Android delayed from summer to sometime in the fall of 2014.

In a post on the game's official website earlier in August, KLab stated:

"To all our fans eagerly anticipating the release of Age of Empires: World Domination - in the past months, our development team has been working hard on the game as well as releasing snippets of the game to you all. We have also been listening to what you, the gamers, have to say. To reflect those changes, we will unfortunately be pushing back the release of the game to fall 2014. We believe that the extra development time will give us the opportunity to create a first-rate mobile game experience that players will love. Thank you for your patience, and we will make a further announcement when an official release date has been decided."

This means that two Age of Empires games made for mobile devices will be coming out in the fall time period. Earlier today, Microsoft confirmed that Age of Empires: Castle Siege will be released sometime in September for Windows Phone and Windows 8.1. What do you think of this delay for Age of Empires: World Domination?

Age of Empires: World Domination for Windows Phone delayed until fall 2014

Vexing, isn't it? I still do not understand why Microsoft releases games on enemy platforms. This on iOS and Android, other stuff on Steam. It's mind boggling to me.

We can have some consolation that the income from releasing games on the other platforms will help find development of the Windows Phone platform. Although exclusives ate what can draw new customers. It's a double edged sword really. At least they are releasing concurrently this time.

I doubt so. I can clearly imagine MS releasing AoE on Android before their own platform. Remember what happened with skype...

The problem is that for any game/app to be popular it needs to be on the popular platforms. Having one exclusive game on Windows Phone is not going to sway someone away from Android. But a popular game on Android not being available on Windows phone may sway people AWAY from Windows Phone.

Plus, of course, there is a far bigger potential market on Android, especially for a studio that actually has a marketing budget.

Just think that you can play a game that was created by Microsoft with your friends who have android or ios. That's a good thing for us who have Windows Phone!

No, fall begins on the Autumnal Equinox, which is on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 (in 29 days), and runs through Winter Solstice, which is on Sunday, December 21, 2014. So the game will launch sometime during that giant window.

Yeah, that had me confused too. Spring in Australia begins Sept 1 and goes until the end of November, so you'd expect Autumn (a.k.a. "Fall" ugh) in the Northern Hemisphere to be the same dates. That's true in most countries - but it looks like the US do their seasons weirdly too.

No, I would say Australia does it weird.   Fall in England starts September 21/22 same for Germany.. probably most of Europe.   It's the equinox where the day and night lengths are the same which is why they use those dates.

That said, this game would've been out on Windows Phone already if they weren't investing valuable resources developing the game for enemy platforms. Frustrating.

Being Microsoft I would expect there's a fair chance they are building the game in Unity, meaning there are no extra resources needed to build the game for other platforms.

What other AoE game are you referring to? Edit: Oh, I see: Castle Siege. I didn't know there were two.

I love AoE , so if you're doing a new game don't do bullsht like Castle Siege, do it with great graphics, like if it had been made for iOS, delay everything you want but make it worth it.

Don't hate it because it's a phone game, hate it if it turns out badly. Another MS Studios game- Skulls of the Shogun is a PC game, and is great on mobile, so if they make it to that standard I'd be very happy. But AoE4 will of course be better, they've spent longer on it.

Not one but two new Age of Empire games, for the mobile space no less. Delay or no, that is AWESOME news. And they both should have achievements…. The next step is to have BOTH of these games released on the One/360.

I'm hardly surprised. Stupid Microsoft hasn't released Cyan properly yet. That was supposed to come early July and they later released it for 620 720 before 820 and 920. Still no update for 820. F*uck you Microsoft. That's why people switch to Apple. Proof is the idc which revealed that wp market share had fallen. They should change the name to Lateosoft.

I've noticed John Callaham makes stories on a lot of negative news issues.   I wonder if that is in his job tittle sometimes.

Anyway.  The developers say they listened to feedback.   But the game still is listed as free-to-play.  This is usually code for in-app-purchases to do things.   I'd rather pay a flat 5.99 - 9.99 rate then be nickled and dimed for in game resources.  So I am not sure they listened to feedback too well.

Microsoft inserted another episode: Age of Empires: Castle Siege. This new project will point the tip of his nose next month on Windows (Phone), exclusively!
