Amazon Mobile Updated to version 2.0

If there is one company out there you can count on to make sure their products work across all platforms its Amazon.

Today sees the app get updated to the lofty heights of version 2.0 and that bump brings with it more region support as well as bug fixes and speed improvements. Read on past the break to find out more..

The last version of the app (1.9.2.6) was very good anyway but the latest bump has brought with it the addition of “lightning deals”. The ability to scan bar codes has also been surfaced better in the UI and now appears on the Search box. Here is what the update is said to include:-

Amazon Mobile Updated to version 2.0

What’s New in 2.0

  • Add items to any of your existing wish lists.
  • Additional country support – shop Amazon across 8 countries, including France, Italy, and Spain.
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements.

As for anything else hidden in there, there isn’t much more that we are seeing. The app moves along very nicely and this update really looks to just tie up a few loose ends. We are sure that plenty of folks in different regions will appreciate the additional language support in the update.

We’re pleased to see Amazon continuing their support for Windows Phone, they have thus far done good work with their Kindle Reader and they also have their Amazon Fresh app available in the marketplace. This is a company that knows the value of cross platform apps support, even though they have competing devices this seen them holding back any apps.

We’d like to hear from you if there is anything we missed, please sound off in comments below.

You can download the app from the Windows Phone Store or scan the QR code below for the same effect. Please note some regions may not see the update immediately.

Thanks to EasyPeasyJD for the tip!!!

Regarding competing product, are you talking about Amazon's cloud storage and music store? Maybe the Kindle Fire competing with RT tablets? Not sure what exactly you are referring to. We know they don't have a competing mobile OS at this moment.

but herein lies the irony... The Kindle app supports Bing [Vision] App Connect, while this new mobile app doesn't!!  stupid.

Well, they don't seem to be very keen on getting the Kindle App working on all platforms. Still no dictionary support for WP8 :-(

I had my region set to United States and was able to download the app and use it. I find you miss out on a lot of features if your region is set to Canada.

i use the app a lot but i got to say they need a better design. It could be so beautiful, but it isnt.

I did at first, but I backed out and deals loaded the second time. Never had this problem before the update.

I'm glad that Amazon gets it... sell the hardware at cost and make nearly no money on it, but ultimately lock everyone in on the content and service regardless of the device. It's a brilliant strategy, and THIS is what Microsoft should be copying instead of Apple.

That said, Amazon app is still slower than I'd prefer (it's definitely a huge improvement though), and I'd also like them to make better use of the Metro design spirit.

Compared to the other 2 mobile platforms this version is ugly, slow, missing features but on the positive side you can browse and buy things which is the main purpose for a shopping app!

Did the "Back" trick to get the update. Loving the new look and it feels a bit faster on my Samsung Focus.

Their kindle app isn't to hot, the kindle app on my nook works better ;)

Though at least they have an app, no nook app for wp8 and even the nook desktop app hasn't been updated for mountain lion.

The only thing the Amazon app has lacked on WP is when you go to your cart being alerted of price changes. That would round this off for me. If they put that into a livetile... well that's just above and beyond! :)

ummm... no.  They don't support Bing App Connect with their "Mobile" app.  I can't tell you how much of a peeve this has become.  Still not fulfilling the pre-Mango press hype.  :(

Am I the only one or does anyone else see this app as just an html5 app to their site? I I feel like this is why people complain of their apps being slow. Zuck left html5 high and dry on the other platforms and their speed improved.
