Top Rated Windows Phone Action/Adventure Games

Windows Central Roundup: Top Rated Windows Phone Action/Adventure Games

Casual gaming on your Windows Phones has its merit. Word and puzzle games can have a laid back feel that can help you pass the time and exercise your brain. While there is a certain appeal to the slower paced games, we all need a little fast-paced action from time to time. Enter the Action/Adventure aisle of the Windows Phone Store.

For this week's roundup, we combed through the Action/Adventure section of the Windows Phone Store and pulled out five of the higher rated games from the Store's shelves. Some are more action packed than others but all should appeal to our need for strategy and action gaming. For added measure, I'll add a few personal favorites that you may want to try as well.

Today you can get a discount on Destiny or Call of Duty and a shirt from a Microsoft Store, but tomorrow? Tomorrow you can get an unlocked Nokia Lumia 635 for as low as $99. That's the door-buster deal in-person at a Microsoft Store, but if you can't make it at the start of the day or in person at all, it'll still be just $129, which is $50 off.

It looks like Indian carrier Idea has enabled carrier billing for Windows Phone, which allows customers to purchase digital content from the Windows Phone Store with their phone balance. Several users on our forums have already confirmed that the option is now working for them, and if you're an Idea customer, head on over to the payment options on your phone to check if it is available for you.

It may be a late Friday, but as Microsoft Joe Belfiore just noted, they are "squeaking one more in this week". That update would be for Facebook Beta, and this is more than just performance improvements (although those are there too). Much like the earlier OneDrive app update, this one brings some significant changes to the layout.

Tonight, version 8.3.4.1 is in the Store and with it comes a beefy changelog, including improvements to 'Top Stories' and 'Most Recent' newsfeeds, which are some of the bigger changes. Let's see what else is new.

Microsoft is showing how valuable the Windows platform is as it tells developers that it anticipates roughly $100 million of Windows Store gift cards will be available this holidays for use on Windows, Windows Phone, and Xbox digital content. The company says that during the holiday season, developers will also generate 2.5 times more revenue than during the rest of the year.

Lenovo reportedly working on 11.6-inch Yoga 3 Pro

It looks like Lenovo may be working on a smaller model of the popular Yoga 3 Pro convertible laptop. After having launched a 13.3-inch model, Lenovo may be working on an 11.6-inch variant of the Yoga 3 Pro sporting an Intel Core M processor. Like the larger version available now, the smaller sibling is said to have the same hinge design, allowing the laptop to fold into different positions to fit your use best.

Although Microsoft is likely hard at work behind the scenes on their Band, third-party developers are busy trying to crack their code. Earlier, we saw Pimp My Band by one of the lead developers at Venetasoft, which lets you customize the background image. Now, Venetasoft proper has their app called Band Sensor Monitor.

Band Sensor Monitor lets you get the values for the various Band sensors, including ones that are technically not active yet like the Galvanic skin sensor, which measures your body temperature. By simply installing Band Sensor Monitor and flipping a few toggle switches, the values are streamed directly to this app in real-time.

5 intriguing apps for Windows 8.1: December 12, 2014

It is time once again to review some apps that caught our eyes this past week. This week, we have a round-up of seven apps that made the news here at Windows Central. Yes, that would be more than the five intriguing apps in the weekly post title, but we have neatly categorized them into five groups.

All I can say is that it is more of a guideline than a rule. If Time can name "Ebola Fighters" Person of the Year, then I can showcase seven apps. Let's get to it.

Appy Weather is a unique Windows Phone weather app in that it presents the weather in a more personal manner. The app takes on the weather forecast with a minimal approach, delivers a healthy amount of information and presents the information not only in a "nuts and bolts" manner but also suggest what the temperature will feel like or how the forecasted conditions will compare to your current conditions.

The Windows Phone weather app was updated today to version 1.2, which adds lockscreen support with the ability to use Bing images or custom photos from your Pictures Hub. App Weather is a well-received weather app in the Windows Phone Store and on first impression, the updates only adds to the appeal of this weather app.

Last year, Gameloft unleashed the first and only Xbox-enabled MMORPG on Windows Phone: Order & Chaos Online. While Order & Chaos Online is basically a World of Warcraft clone, it's also an utterly massive and compelling game – especially for a phone game. If we had a game like that on Xbox consoles, I'd never leave the house (and now we kind of do, thanks to Onigiri).

Unfortunately, Order & Chaos Online suffered from a few frustrating bugs like uncompletable dungeons and unpurchasable pets, not to mention graphical glitches on the Lumia 1520. Gameloft last updated the game in August 2013, just before deciding to drop Xbox support on its Windows Phone and Windows 8 titles.

Don't despair! Windows Central is proud to announce that Order & Chaos Online is not only going to be updated next week, it's also launching on Windows 8 and RT – with Xbox support. Read on for exclusive details on the update and Gameloft's future plans for Windows Phone and Windows 8.
