Yesterday we released updates for our official Windows and Windows Phone apps for the site. No new features were implemented, but the branding was updated throughout both apps to reflect our recent name-change.

Unfortunately, a missing "/" character from the code caused the Live Tile and notifications to break in the app. You can file the mistake under rushing to meet a deadline, but the simple forward slash omission had some drastic ramifications, to say the least.

Beginners' Tips Series!

One of the many conveniences that the Windows family of products offers is the ability to receive notifications from apps on your Lock screen. These Lock screen notifications appear under the time and date on your device and give you a quick glimpse of any new emails, updates, events, etc. The notifications await your acknowledgement without having to log in and open any apps.

In Windows, you are limited to a total of seven apps that can notify you via the Lock screen, while Windows phone keeps it to a maximum of five. Since some apps come with Lock screen notifications enabled by default, you could find yourself running out of options. So we threw together this quick guide on how to choose which applications appear on your Lock screen.

Microsoft has its work cut out for them in the United States where perception of the tech giant is seen as less hip than Apple. Besides the near ubiquitous adoption by celebrities of the iPhone, the US Congress is also evidently a big fan of Cupertino's hardware.

Popular DC rag The Hill conducted a survey back at the beginning of the month asking members of Congress which phones they used. As it turns out, more than 71 percent of our lawmakers use iPhones, with 28 percent still using BlackBerry. Android does not fair too well either, with only 9 percent favoring the somewhat convoluted mobile OS. Many in Congress also carry multiple phones.

TNT and TBS both launch universal apps for Windows Phone letting users watch TV anywhere

TBS, owned by Turner Broadcasting, has had an app on Windows 8.1 for quite some time now. It only seems apropos that they adapt that app for Windows Phone, letting users watch clips and – after authenticating – whole episodes on the go. For added bonus, Turner could also toss in TNT Drama into the mix as well.

This morning, users can download Watch TNT and TBS for Windows right to their phones. Watch TNT is focused mostly on drama shows, including The Last Ship, Major Crimes, Falling Skies and lets users watch episodes on their phone and continue it on their Windows 8.1 device. For TBS for Windows, you get Conan, Big Bang Theory, and a host of other comedies and lighter fare with the same episode streaming and history abilities.

Microsoft has been busy testing and updating Windows 10 and we have been just as busy trying to keep track of all the new features that have been added. For that reason, we have decided to compile a list things that make Windows 10 stand apart, one build version at a time.

Windows 10 is not due until mid-2015 but with regular updates and a free installation, the Technical Preview lets you try it out today. How far will the OS evolve over the next nine months? We have no idea, but we are going to start keeping track. Here is what is new so far.

A few weeks ago, the Cortana team introduced a new concert-tracking feature listed under Interests. By enabling Concert Watch, Cortana can show you when your favorite artists are playing in your area and how to get tickets. It is an ingenious addition to the personal assistant as keeping track of your favorite artists is getting more and more difficult with our increasingly complex lives.

As cool as the concert-tracking feature is, we had a few questions about how it all worked. Luckily, we were able to ask Limor Lahiani, Principal Development Lead and Hadas Bitran, Principal Program Management Lead at Microsoft about how Cortana does what she does.
