Earlier this week, indie developer Double Damage Games announced an exciting space epic for Xbox One called Rebel Galaxy. Fans of space-faring science fiction will gravitate towards its mixture of deep space exploration, combat, and adventure.

Meanwhile, another couple of indie games for Xbox One have also just been announced: The Escapists from Team17 and Adventures of Pip from TicToc Games. Both games have two things in common. One: they make use of delightful 2D pixel art, lending them unique looks among today's 3D gaming landscape. And two: both games are the result of successful Kickstarter crowd-funding campaigns. Who says 2D is dead? Not the people who funded these two games!

Microsoft releases Network+ update for Lumias

Network+ has been updated by Microsoft, releasing version 2.3.1.17 to the Windows Phone Store. As is the norm with these system apps, there's no up-to-date changelog attached to the store listing, making it difficult to decipher what's actually new in this latest version.

Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) has attempted to clear up any confusion surrounding the company's new content usage policy, which governs what content creators are allowed to do when it comes to editing and publishing video game footage. It was previously believed that Microsoft disallowed the use of the game's title, but Hryb states this is not the case and the rules are actually more relaxed.

A few days ago, an app called Phone Insider was found in the Store. Not too long after, Microsoft's Gabriel Aul even confirmed on Twitter that the app will be discussed at next week's January 21 event in Redmond.

The focus of that event is Windows 10, and many believe how it will work on Windows Phone devices will also be detailed.

Now, a new version of the app – with a different name – has been found in the Store. Dubbed Windows Previewer Beta , the app appears to be an internal test version of the app. Windows Phone app developer and XDA forum moderator Jeremy Sinclair has also managed to pull out a few screenshots and details from the app.

Microsoft is pushing out new firmware for all three Surface Pro devices

Patch Tuesday came and went this week without anything additional for the Surface Pro 3, however, late tonight a new firmware package did go out. Additionally, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro owners are also getting some new firmware, though not as comprehensive as the one for the Surface Pro 3.

Microsoft has published the full details of the firmware bundles, which includes many new additions, including new HD graphics drivers, some Wi-Fi connectivity fixes when using Hyper-V and more.

The Lumia Denim update is hitting more devices each day, and a big chunk of those are country variants often marked as CV. Country variants are non-carrier phones, but even though they are SIM unlocked, they still feature region localization including default language, preloaded apps pertinent to that country and carrier network settings.

Because of this there is no such thing as a "generic" Lumia Windows Phone. Hong Kong, Mexico, Thailand, Norway, and others all have their own country variant of each Lumia model. These country variant Lumias are increasingly eligible for the Lumia Denim update, including the Lumia 930 starting today. However, not all of CVs are yet cleared, and if you bought your Lumia from a retailer, you might not know its region code.

Microsoft is pushing out a significant update today for those lucky enough to have a Microsoft Band fitness tracker. Today's update follows up on last week's firmware and software fixes.

The update is bringing new Guided Workouts to the already extensive selection available through the Microsoft Health app. The feature enables users to select a workout, which then downloads to the Microsoft Band, giving feedback and cues on specific exercise regimens (see our tutorial).

If you are like us and part of the Windows Insider program, which lets users adopt and try out Windows 10 before its public release, you may have received an email detailing some changes.

The email itself does not reveal too much as it simply says that the "Windows Insider Program Terms of Use are changing" and to check back after January 21 for the modifications.

In and of itself that is not a big deal, but as many of you know next Wednesday, January 21, Microsoft is set to unveil "the next chapter" for Windows 10. That event will be live-streamed, and Windows Central will be in Redmond covering it live all day.

Update: Clarified the post to indicate that speeds are throttled back to 128kbps (about 2G speeds) when you hit your data allotment, not 3G. Also added additional information on plan restrictions.

Original story: T-Mobile today announced a new wave of prepaid plans under the Simple Choice branding. Unlimited data, calls, SMS and limited 4G LTE will be offered on T-Mobile's network from $40 a month. Opting for higher LTE allowances will increase the price depending on how much data you believe you'll chew through.
