Microsoft has just launched the first update for its Windows 10 Technical Preview, based on feedback from its many users. In fact, Microsoft has gone out of its way to make sure that it gets as much feedback as possible for its OS. In a blog post, Microsoft's Gabe Aul, the leader of the Operating Systems Group's Data and Fundamentals Team, writes about just how that feedback is translated into actual new features and bug fixes for future builds.

Microsoft's Cortana is winning the hearts and minds of users lucky enough to have the personal assistant on their Windows Phone. One feature we know people would really like to have is the ability for Cortana to read out notifications for incoming alerts. For instance, imagine if Cortana could announce a phone call and even the person calling when your phone rings.

Redditor clang_ley has made your dream one-step closer to reality by creating 19 Cortana ringtones and notifications hosted on their OneDrive account. The notifications range from various email scenarios, like work or school, to Facebook and Skype messages. The MP3 clips say things like 'Somebody messaged you on Facebook' or 'Chief, someone is calling you' all in Cortana's distinctive voice.

I've recently taken a deeper step into the connected world. A step that some will describe as being interesting, and that some will describe as being crazy. To be honest, as happy as I am since I have taken this step, I have to admit that I fall on both the interesting and crazy sides myself. Before getting any further, I should mention that the "step" I took was implanting an NFC chip in my hand.

The Nokia Lumia 830 is seeding out globally to retailers and carriers with the phone expected to launch in the US on AT&T Friday, November 7. The 5-inch Windows Phone nicknamed the 'affordable flagship' won our initial praise last week in our first-impressions article.

Windows Central has now learned some marketing plans for the Lumia 830 when it arrives early next month for AT&T, and it includes a Fitbit Flex promotion. Evidently, Microsoft has a separate SKU for the phone that includes a free Fitbit Flex with every purchase. The deal will be a limited-time-offer or until the bundle runs out of stock. It will be available both at Microsoft Stores as well as AT&T ones as well.

Beginners' Tips Series!

Now, more than ever before, people have tons of data about themselves stored online. We have information in emails, bank accounts, social media, and countless other places. And at no other time has all of this data been more at risk.

While we cannot prevent the Targets and Home Depots of the world from being breached and exposing our credit card data, there are some measures that we can take in to help secure our information.

One of the easiest and most effective ways of doing that is by setting up two-step verification in our online accounts, like our Microsoft account.

Earlier this summer, UK-based developer VooFoo Studios and Ripstone (who also published Stick it to the Man) announced That Pure Pool would be coming to Xbox One as part of the ID@Xbox program. Pure Pool is set to be the first pool game (and I don't mean the kind of pools that The Sims 4 lacks) on Microsoft's latest console. The Playstation 4 and PC versions landed in July, but the Xbox One version has seemingly been stuck outside of the pool hall, waiting for the bouncer to let it in.

It looks like the line has been moving for Pure Pool after all, because we just got some fresh Xbox One screenshots in today. The creators even promise that a release date will be announced within the coming weeks. I'm betting mid-late November. That's prime pool game season, if you ask me. Especially because it'll be too cold to hop in the pool outside by then. Keep reading to check out the new screens and details!

How to send drawings on Skype for Windows Phone

On Monday, Skype added drawings to their Windows Phone app. You can draw on empty canvas, add scribbles to a photo, or even add markers on a map. There were other updates too, including sign-in improvements, HD screen support, and faster resume time, but drawings stand out. Not sure how to do it with the new update? Don't worry. We'll show you in this video.

Welcome to Windows Central!

We have a new name! We began as WMExperts back in 2007 covering Windows Mobile, changed our name in late 2010 to WPCentral to reflect Microsoft's next chapter with Windows Phone. Today, we are once again moving forward with Windows Central.

The Number One Community For EVERYTHING Microsoft

It should be clear now that coming into 2015 there is just one Windows, running on the Surface, Xbox One, PCs, laptops and even your phone. At the urging of many of our loyal and active readers, over the last year we have steadily ramped up coverage — beyond our historical Windows Phone focus — to also cover Xbox, Surface, and general Microsoft news. The response to the expanded coverage has been excellent and this past year has also seen the site and our community grow by leaps and bounds. Amazingly, WPCentral is now not only the top Windows Phone site in the world, but we are also one of the top Microsoft sites too. The fact of the matter is if you own a Windows Phone, you are likely to possess (or be interested in) the growing ecosystem of Microsoft products.

We want to continue the momentum that's already underway and changing from WPCentral.com to WindowsCentral.com reflects our expanded mission (not to mention Microsoft recently dropped the Phone from the branding on new Windows phones). Our goal and mission is simple - we'll be working our hardest every single day to make this community and resource the best destination around for all users of Microsoft-based products.
