Continuum is Microsoft's fancy new way of switching between tablet and desktop mode in Windows 10 as and when the need arises, but what if you want to play around with tablet mode on your desktop PC? Well, no worries, as is often the case there's a manual way to do it so long as you know where to look.

Here's where to find it.

It's been a crazy, crazy week around here and in among all the Windows 10 activity we've turned things over to you, the community, several times to get your opinions. Starting out with our weekly poll, which this week was all about the Microsoft Band, we then switched gears on more than one occasion to get some opinions on everything surrounding Microsoft's Windows 10 event.

After a great response across the board, we've got some pretty clear results to share. And in some regards the outcome isn't a surprise at all. Let's get to it.

The Spartan browser, or more accurately understood as 'Project Spartan' is a next-generation web browser for Windows 10. Its main features include being a Store app for dynamic updates, using the older IE11 rendering engine for legacy websites, Cortana integration, and the ability to annotate right on the web page for document sharing.

However, Spartan is not the final name, just the internal codename that Microsoft is currently using for the project. The question is, what will Microsoft call the browser upon its final release? A new report suggests a few names are being kicked around and we have the list.

The information comes from a person who participated in an online survey from a company acting on behalf of Microsoft. Although 'Spartan' was not named specifically, it was referred to in the description including "Writing on webpages", "A built-in digital assistant" and the fact that it is a browser from Microsoft launching later this year. No doubt that the survey is referring to Project Spartan.

Windows 10 is shaping up to be a big OS shift for many reasons, including the addition of a new web browser codenamed Spartan. Spartan is still very experimental and as such, it is not included in the current Preview for Windows 10. However, bits of the rendering engine can be engaged in the older Internet Explorer 11.

AnandTech forced the new Edge document mode in IE11 through a simple trick using about:flags. They then compared the new rendering engine to legacy IE11, Chrome 40, and Firefox 35. The results are very impressive so far, demonstrating that even in these early stages, what powers Spartan could be quite powerful.

When it comes to web browsers, Windows 10 gets a little complicated. Internet Explorer 11 is the default browser for now, but later Spartan takes over as it has the new Edge rendering engine (but it can fall back to IE11 for legacy sites).

The Preview 9926 build has Internet Explorer 11 for the browser, however it does have some bits of the new Spartan one coming later this year. Specifically, you can enable the new rendering engine in IE11, the same one that is found in Spartan.

The first ever PAX South (PAX stands for Penny Arcade Expo) has been keeping me extremely busy in San Antonio, TX this weekend. We already reported my impressions of State of Decay for Xbox One, and I have impressions of several more Xbox One and mobile Windows games to share with you soon. But first, let me tell you about this morning's Gearbox Panel.

Gearbox, best known as the makers of Borderlands, have a significant presence at PAX South. With one dedicated theatre, a community room and non-stop panels all weekend, you could be forgiven for thinking of PAX South as Gearbox's equivalent of QuakeCon. Today's panel took place in the convention's main theater and focused on the future of Borderlands and Tales from the Borderlands, plus Gearbox's Battleborn and Homeworld projects.

Read on for complete details and photos of everything revealed during Gearbox's highly entertaining presentation!

ICYMI: January 24, 2015

A lot can happen in a week. New apps join the Windows Phone Store or Windows Store. Your favorite apps can get a big update with a new look or new features. Device rumors come and go. Seven days might not seem like much, but it can be an eternity in the tech news cycle.

Every week we're going to compile the biggest stories into one post, so you never fall behind – In Case You Missed It (ICYMI).

Yesterday, Microsoft let loose the latest overhaul of the nascent Windows 10 operating system aka build 9926. There are hundreds of changes throughout – some big, some small – but one interesting find you may not yet have noticed is the new OneNote for Office Touch.

Although it was known that the new Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint would not be in this build, the status of OneNote was not heavily discussed. Most of us presumed that the same touch-friendly version of OneNote would be included, but instead we are getting a peek at the new Touch Office version.

Windows Central Roundup: Top Windows 8 Games

We are taking a slight change of pace for this week's roundup. Instead of focusing on apps for Windows Phone, we are going to take a look at a few of the top rated Windows games.

An HP Stream 8 tablet was left under the tree with my name on it this past Christmas. While my Windows Phone is my primary device for gaming these days, I'm finding the 8" Windows tablet can hold its own rather well. I think in many respects a tablet is more amenable to gaming than a laptop or desktop, especially when touch screen controls are in play.

I've plucked four gaming titles from the Windows Store (plus a few honorable mentions) that I have found to be nice gaming options when you need the elbowroom a tablet offers. Many of these gaming options are available for your Windows Phone and I'll add the download links with those titles for the Windows Phone Store and make not if the version is available for low-memory Windows Phones.
