This week saw some exciting changes around here. WPCentral became Windows Central, a big change that is evidence of many fun things to come. With that change comes a lot of rebrandings, and as I was looking around my office, I realized that I have a bunch of WPCentral items that need to go to make room for new Windows Central goodies. So this weekend, we're working on clearing the old things out!
Microsoft released the 9860 build of its Windows 10 Technical Preview a few days ago and now the company is offering up some of the installation statistics it has gathered since its release. It's not a shock to learn that 41 percent of 9860 testers have installed the build on a desktop PC, since that is what this version of Windows 10 is targeting.
Earlier this week, Microsoft unleashed a trailer for the upcoming Halo 2 remake documentary "Remaking the Legend: Halo 2 Anniversary." The documentary will reveal the tremendous work that went into recreating the classic original Xbox game Halo 2 on the new Xbox One console. Some of the most interesting things about Halo in general are its art, technology, and character designs, and we should get plenty of glimpses of those things in the documentary.
Microsoft apparently likes the MKV media file format. A couple of weeks after the company added support for MKV to the Xbox One in its October update, the company has also quietly added support for the format to the new 9860 build of the Windows 10 Technical Preview, which is not available currently for Windows 8.1.
It looks like things are about to speed up for our friends in the North—on Rogers at least. The Canadian carrier announced today that it has flipped the switch on LTE-Advanced in several markets throughout the country. Perhaps even better, Rogers is doing all of this on the 700 MHz spectrum, which should allow for greater penetration inside of buildings.

On September 30, 2014, Microsoft finally revealed to the world their next version of Windows. Speculation about the name had been ongoing for months, especially with the known internal name of 'Threshold' being used widely in the press. Would Microsoft call it just Windows? What about Windows One or the more traditional Windows 9?
Microsoft threw everyone a curve ball by announcing the name as jumping from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. No official reason is known, although the most obvious is to make Windows 10 seem like a big deal as an update.
Starting about ten days ago, reports that Samsung was pushing out Windows Phone 8.1 Update for ATIV S users began circulating the 'nets. We have our own ATIV S here in the house, which is an unbranded UK release, and were not able to get any such update. Instead, we are stuck on Windows Phone 8.0 GDR3 (Build 10517; Firmware 24188.8.131.52).
As it turns out, a very select few ATIV S users are getting Windows Phone 8.1 Update (Build 14157; Firmware 24184.108.40.206), which is splendid news. The bad news is it is isolated to specific regions like Austria and maybe Hong Kong.
Samsung ATIV S devices released through carriers and most other areas are not seeing the update yet, although obviously this can change. Let me try and explain and give you the full story.

Speculation about the name change has been going for months but on October 21, Microsoft made it official by stating the new name will go from Nokia Lumia to Microsoft Lumia.
Tonight, the Conversations blog has more on the name change, including what it all means.
I'm on a boat! Well, not really, but you might be. This week we're going to go out and capture some boats for our weekly photo contest. Those boats don't have to be in the middle of the Pacific, as you can see the image above here is on dry land. Just go find a boat and take a cool picture with your Windows Phone.
