Car Starter for Windows Phone 8 updated, new shortcuts and map features added to the mix

Car Starter

Car Starter is a dashboard companion app for your Windows Phone 8 device that can come in handy while driving.  Car Starter’s layout places access to your music, contacts, app shortcuts, maps and more at your fingertips.

Car Starter was recently updated to version 1.5, which adds a few more app and settings shortcut options to the app, the ability to set more than two destinations, and a search assistant in setting destinations.

Car Starter
Car Starter App and Settings Shortcuts

Car Starter has six preset buttons to launch a collection of apps and settings.  The collection of settings shortcut options has been expanded to include airplane mode, rotation lock and location services.  The collection of app shortcut options has expanded to include the WPCentral app, HERE Maps, and PCast that includes voice commands to launch and play podcasts from PCast.

The version 1.5 update also includes your typical user interface improvements, bug fixes and helps give a nice Windows Phone 8 app a little more meat on the bones.

Car Starter is a free Windows Phone 8 app that you can pick up here in the Windows Phone Store.

Car Starter for Windows Phone 8 updated, new shortcuts and map features added to the mix

When driving mode kicks in for me, it doesn't do anything other than: a) automatically connect to my car's bluetooth for calls and audio playback b) autoreply to text messages ("I'm driving right now, blahblahblah..."). I would be thrilled if it were to automatically start one of the driving mode apps (I have 3 or so, including the Nokia app that accompanies their wireless dock), but it doesn't.

There is no functionality overlap between the "Driving Mode" feature of GDR3 and the features of Car Starter. All GDR3 Driving mode does is turn off your notifications and auto reply to texts/phone calls. The main features of Car Starter are saving frequent destinations and launching nav apps to take you there and initiating music/podcast listening with voice commands.

Nice, I had forgotten about this app. Going on a business trip today to Austin and I'm definitely goih to use my GPS there so this will ease the driving portions. jejeje

This app will probably get years of use for those on AT&T as I seriously doubt GDR3+Black will get released before support ends on the current gen devices like the 920.
