It's patch day again for the official WPCentral app. After a slightly rushed fix we released last week to address problems some regions were experiencing when using Microsoft's pubcenter advertising controls, a new issue was introduced that affected users with the Iconic tile enabled when launching from toast notifications.

We're happy to say that said issue is fixed with today's release of version 4.4.20 for Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8. You'll find the full change list after the break as always, but if you'd rather just go grab the update then see the Windows Phone Store here.

We're excited to announce another patch to our official Windows Phone app today, which you can download right now here in the marketplace (Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7). Whilst this version 4.4.18 is not the biggest update we've ever announced we suspect a fair few people will be quite happy.

Following a flood of e-mails and messages complaining about our live tile's compatibility with the developer preview of Windows Phone 8.1 we've made sure that tile transparency now works correctly for both of our live tiles. The other headline change is that we've now made all features of the app available to all users.

One of the key attractions for the Windows Phone platform is the Live Tiles. It allows you get a glance at key information such as new emails, the current temperature, your next appointment or sports scores. The recent Windows Phone 8.1 update only adds to this attraction with new features such as transparent tiles, a third-column option, and a few new apps that liven up your Start Screen.

Continuing the series on what is on our Windows Phone Start Screen, it is my turn to share.

That time is upon us, folks! Microsoft is hosting their annual Build conference, where the company is expected to announce, reveal, tantalize and woo developers with their new and updated creations. Being that you’re at Windows Phone Central, you’re probably concerned with one particular aspect: Windows Phone 8.1.

The Windows Phone Central team is en route to San Francisco as we speak to cover the massive event. Sam Sabri, myself and Mark Guim will all be on the ground, bringing you the latest and greatest coverage as it happens. Rich Edmonds, George Ponder, Michael Archambault, and Paul Acevedo will be covering our flank while we’re gone, picking up those stories that we’ve missed.

We are now less than a week from officially seeing Windows Phone 8.1 for the first time. The unveiling is happening next week at Microsoft’s Build conference in San Francisco. Not only do we get to see the new mobile operating system from Microsoft, but Nokia is expected to announce two new Windows Phone 8.1 devices – the Lumia 630 (Moneypenny) and the Lumia 930 (Martini).

We’ve seen quite a bit of Windows Phone 8.1 over the past few weeks. Generally we’ve seen the Windows Phone community pleased and excited about all the upcoming changes. But there’s one feature that has a lot of you divided. That’s the new Start screen on Windows Phone 8.1. We’ve all wanted a little more customization options for the part of Windows Phone we spend a lot of time looking at. Microsoft is adding background image support, but in a way not a lot of people expected. Do you like it?

Our friends over at Android Central have a brand new phone to play with. It’s the 2014 edition of the HTC One (M8). We just checked out their review and we’ll admit we’re a little jealous. We love the playful colors of the Lumia handsets, but we wouldn’t mind seeing more Windows Phones with metal finishes. Which is why we think we’d love a device like the HTC One with Windows Phone 8.1. What about you?

Previously we covered the story about Nokia China racking up extremely high pre-order numbers in a dubious method. By the end of this week, the total number of pre-order (at no cost at all, up to 3 units for each registered user, with a chance to win a free phone) reached 10 million.

The actual sales of Nokia X commenced on Chinese e-commerce platform JD.com on 10:00 am of March 24 (Beijing time). Everyone with a pre-order has two options: either to make the payment and seal the deal, or to forfeit the pre-order and forget about it. Didn't even make a pre-order? Well, you will be served last then, if there's any chance left.

Microsoft Stores are awesome. They’re the only place people like Daniel buy electronics these days. At least when it comes to laptops, tablets and desktops. Customer service is great and they’re just a fun place to hang with the latest tech running Microsoft’s software. Unfortunately there aren’t as many Microsoft Stores out in the wild just yet.  You’ll find nearly 60 of them in the United States, a few in Canada and one in Puerto Rico.

Today you can add one more to the tally for the US. Westfarms Mall in Farmington, Connecticut just opened to the public today. There we’re probably a few of you there today and for that we’re mad jealous. Windows Phone Central reader Atif A. went to the opening and shared some videos and photos of the event. Feel free to live vicariously through them.

Mobile World Congress is in full-swing over in Barcelona. We’re not expecting big news on the Windows Phone front. Instead we’ll get smaller announcements. The big announcements for new smartphones are coming from the likes of Samsung and Sony. Devices that are running Android. Even though they’re running an OS most of you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot stick, they are compelling hardware. Which of the newly announced phones running Android would you take if they had Windows Phone instead?

Mobile World Congress 2014 kicks off this Monday, February 24 in Barcelona. Nokia will be there. Microsoft will be there. We’ll be there.

Nokia will reportedly announce the Nokia X (aka Normandy) Android device, a rumored refresh of the Nokia 105 and a new low-end Asha. While no new Lumias will be revealed, this is Nokia. They always have some cool things to reveal, including new apps and accessories. We’ll cover it all.
