Windows Phone Apps

Photo Marker is a neat little app that enables you to mark and add notes to any photo on your Windows Phone. Today, the developer released version 1.6, adding a number of small improvements. As covered in our review of the app, it's not an app that you'll use day-in and day-out, but it's super-handy to have available if you happen to snap a bunch of photos on your smartphone.

The official Instagram app for Windows Phone hasn't seen an update since March last year. It's still lacking features offered by the official apps on iOS and Android. The good news is that 6tag, a popular third-party Instagram app for Windows Phone, continues to add new features that are absent from the official one. With latest version 4.0 update, you can adjust filter strength, play with five new filters, and edit existing posts. Want to see it in action? Check out our hands-on video.

Update: Well that didn't take long. It looks like 6tag is back and ready to download.

Original story: This morning, Rudy Huyn released 6tag 4.0, bringing some of the latest Instagram features to Windows Phone like new filters and finally being able to edit posts.

One issue many of you are noticing is that after you update your existing 6tag app, the program fails to load. Instead, it back out and goes back to your Start screen (or menu). Turns out it is a cache incompatibility problems and uninstalling and reinstalling the app appears to fix it.

The Instagram client 6tag version 4.0 barely got out the door this morning before being temporarily pulled due to a caching issue. While we wait for the 4.0.0.1 fix to roll out to the Store, it is worth chewing on that version 5.0 – likely not due for many months – is planned to be a universal app for Windows Phone and Windows.

Many developers are already contemplating the Windows 10 OS refresh and new developer tools, which are set to be unveiled later this spring at Microsoft's Build 2015 conference. Huyn is a connected developer, often featured by Microsoft so thinking about a universal app using Windows 10 seems like a no-brainer for the prolific developer.

There are plenty of quality children's apps and games in the Windows Phone Store. Titles that not only will keep our kids entertained but will also teach them a thing or two along the way. Monstrous Math is one such Windows Phone app (or is it a game?) that hopes to teach children the basic math skills in a fun, animated app.

Monstrous Math covers addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems with each area having 12 stages. Each stage has five randomly generated equations, giving the game a little longevity. Available for low-memory Windows Phones, as well as Windows 8 devices, Monstrous Math is a strong option to consider for those with younger Windows Phone fans with a need exercise their math muscles.

Recently, an internal listing for what looks to be a Pebble synchronization app for Windows Phone was found in the Store. Pebble is one of the most prevalent and well-known smartwatches on the market, so official support for it on Windows Phone would be a big win for the platform.

Unfortunately, the evidence is mixed, at best. We'll try to explain what is going on.

Last night, WhatsApp out of the blue pushed out a semi-rare update for their popular messaging app. Unfortunately, no changelog was included, so it was left to the masses to discern what is new.

We should have caught the change, as it has been rumored for months now, but alas we have been playing with shiny, new tablets lately. The change in 2.11.670 is rather straightforward: how the messages appear in the notification center.

For the last few days, many tips have been rolling in about 6tin, Rudy Huyn's Tinder client. Huyn's apps have had a hit and miss record with some companies who's IP is involved with his creations. This is why when 6tin went missing recently, people started to fear the worst.

Luckily, in this case at least, 6tin is missing merely due to some Store problem.
