Cut the Rope makes a surprise Xbox Windows Phone 7 appearance this week

Yesterday we reported that Windows Phone 7 would not receive an Xbox release this week. As it turns out, the information we received was slightly incomplete. The oft-requested Cut the Rope as finally arrived on Windows Phone 7 and is fully compatible with WP8. Instead of Chillingo, this version comes from the original developer, Zeptolab UK.

Cut the RopeA bit of Cut the Rope history: way back in 2011, Windows Phone Central ran a contest in which we asked readers which mobile games they would like to see ported to our OS as Xbox Live titles. One of the runner-up suggestions was Cut the Rope. Now that the game has finally arrived, it has the honor of being the first from our readers’ ten most-wanted games to appear on Windows Phone. Let’s hope more will follow!

Although Cut the Rope has been conspicuous in its absence, we’ve actually had a very good substitute for about a year now: MaxNick’s Spider Jack. That game is a clone of Cut the Rope but stars a spider who eats flies. At last Windows Phone players can experience the original and better known game, though they won’t find a whole lot different in this one.

The premise of Cut the Rope is simple. A little creature called Om Nom arrives on the player’s doorstep. The thing craves candy and it’s your job to give it to him. In each level, a candy hands from one or more pieces of rope. You’ll need to cut the ropes in the right order to make it swing into Om Nom’s mouth. Levels also have three stars to collect by making the candy swing through them. With 300 levels and some fairly unique Achievements (compared to Spider Jack), this one should keep players busy for a while.

Cut the Rope costs $.99 and there is a free trial no trial for some reason. Get the full game here on the Windows Phone Store.

Cut the Rope makes a surprise Xbox Windows Phone 7 appearance this week

Nice to see this was made by the original developer. Hopefully this is a sign that the platform is starting to attract more of the mainstream app developers' attention.

not really.  This game had been in the works for a while.  What you are seeing are games at the end of the WM7.x pipeline that had been in the works for months.

Ah! Thanks for the clarification. At the very least, it still looks good for the WP Marketplace when there are big name apps being added to it. Hopefully this trend continues.

Yes and no glitches. All the achievements pop for a perfect 200. You don't have to gold star every level. So just keep going and everything will pop.

I installed it a few hours ago. The game doesn't load from the pinned tile on my 8x, and the aspect ratio doesn't fit my screen. Perhaps the latter is an issue with supporting both wp7 and wp8. The aspect ratio on angry birds space is fine.

I bet you're right - Cut the Rope is compatible with WP 7.5 and up, and so it has to support the smaller screens. Out of curiosity, how are you liking your 8X? I'm deciding between that the 920 for my next device.

The phone is very very nice to touch, look at, and stroke lol. As long as i get a sat nav solution, Nokia can go jump. Looks-wise this has to be the best on offer. Also that crappy xda developers app actually runs fast on this!

The article made me aware of it, but after playing it on Windows 8 RP/RTM, I don't need a trial and at only a dollar, I really can't argue too much about getting my moneys worth...

They should let us use Microsoft Points also (for the xbox WP games), cause some of us don't live in the US and have no credit card :/
& need trail version :)

So if I buy this for my 7.5 phone, will I have to buy it again when I upgrade to wp8? (not that it is overpriced or anything...more of a general question). What about games like this that are also available on Windows 8 (PC)...do I have to pay again to play it there (all on the same Microsoft account mind you).

Well it says:This app is not available on your device or country...bla bla.
I have a Htc Titan in good old Germany. What is going on there, never experienced anything like that. Anybody?

Wow!! I really like how smooth it is on WP7. It is much smoother than on my Surface RT. It is a fun game, and I really hope they end up releasing a version optimized for WinRT.

I was getting laughed at for just getting a game that has been out for a long time on iphone. But regardless, it's a fun game, and I am enjoying it!
