Microsoft releasing Temple Run and five more games today for Windows Phone 8 [Updated]

Subway Surfers doesn’t look to be coming to Windows Phone anytime soon (the teaser image was just a hoax), but worry not. Windows Phone 8 will soon have a 3D endless runner to its name. Speaking of names, that runner is none other than the original game that started the genre craze: Temple Run from Imangi Studios! We knew it was coming, but this is the first time we’ve actually played the port for ourselves.

Not only that, but in celebration of GDC week, Microsoft is releasing a number of indie games for Windows Phone 8 today. Read on for actual Windows Phone screenshots, video demo and quick impressions!

Temple Run

Temple Run

First, the bad news: Temple Run will not be an Xbox Live title. That’s right, one of the most popular mobile games around, which Microsoft specifically had a hand in bringing to Windows Phone, will not bear the coveted Xbox name. Somebody should write an editorial about that.

Still, a lot of guys, gals, and people of indiscriminate gender just want to play Temple Run on their Windows Phones. They should be able to do that very soon, as the game seems to be pretty much done. The goal is to help a hapless explorer run as far through a danger-filled temple as he collects coins and dodges obstacles.

The controls are simple: tilt left and right to move along the path, swipe left or right to make 90-degree turns, swipe up to jump, and swipe down to slide. If you’ve played The Gunstringer: Dead Man Running or similar games, then you already know the drill. The input here is extremely natural, surely one of the factors behind the game’s success.

The Windows Phone 8 port does look a bit dated graphically – certainly no more advanced than what Windows Phone 7 can accomplish. But once the first game comes along and does well, that certainly paves the way for the sequel. We don’t have pricing info yet, but hopefully it will be free and supported by in-app purchases.

6th Planet

6th Planet Windows Phone

This game is a unique combination of digital comic with actual gameplay interspersed between the story sequences. It plays a lot like an advanced version of Lunar Lander. 6th Planet costs 99 cents and you can get it here.

Official description:

“6th Planet tells the story of a near future, where the planet Saturn suddenly changes into a possible place for humans to live. To find out what is going on, a monkey is sent into space. This is the beginning of a series of events that will determine mankind’s future.

The goal of the game is to guide your space pod to the landing site on the other side of the level. With only two buttons to work with, it is a simple concept that’s easy to pick up, but hard to master. The Story Mode contains 50 levels, divided across 7 worlds. This stands for at least four hours of gameplay. If you succeed in finishing this mode, you unlock the Master levels, which is a collection of very challenging levels for you to try out. This mode will be updated in the future with more content.

The comic story, in between the levels, consists of a total of 188 screens, which is two comic books worth of images. The story is co-written and drawn by the studio that’s responsible for the Oscar nominated animation films The Triplets of Belleville and The Secret of Kells. Screens are colored by Raymund Lee, famous for his work on Marvel’s Wolverine series.”

Fling Theory

Fling Theory for Windows Phone 8

A unique game in which players help a little red creature navigate dangerous obstacles within a scientist’s lab. The graphics are cel-shaded and create a great sense of depth when seen in motion. To move the creature around, you pull it back like a slingshot. It’s a cool marriage of physics-puzzle style controls with an actual traditional game structure. Get the Windows Phone 8 version for free here. The Windows 8 version costs $2.99 - get it here.

Official description:

"In Fling Theory, players solve physics-based puzzles by manipulating atoms and destroying obstacles. Your weapon? Electrons! Play through hours of gravity -- and mind-bending levels. Imagine Angry Birds Space where you have to actually think about what you're doing -- that's Fling Theory in a nutshell.

The game starts by giving you negative electrons and introducing the concept of repulsion. Soon we introduce the ability to manipulate the charge of atoms by hitting them, switching your polarity to launch positrons, and damaging obstacles to progress. Once those basics are taught, we ramp up the difficulty.

On the fence? You can actually PLAY a demo of Fling Theory right now! Head over to http://www.flingtheory.com/playnow.html and let us know what you think! The full version contains crazier levels, over 25 of them!"

Orcs Must Survive

Orcs Must Survive for Windows Phone 8

A charming tower defense spin on the console and PC Orcs Must Die series. The spin is that players control the evil orcs and must fend off pesky do-gooding humans. I could do without the black borders (not present on iOS), but otherwise it's quite lovely. The Windows Phone game costs 99 cents and you can get it here. The Windows 8 version costs $2.99 - get it here.

Official description:

“A black-hearted King punishes the brave Orcs, the only ones in the kingdom with joy in their hearts. Join the Orcs in their battle against the royal troops to regain the happiness that was stolen by the King’s evil spell. A strategy game that brings to life the strength of these fantastic characters from the medieval era.
Advance through the various levels, gaining more troops and weapons to fight the knights, wizards and ghosts of the King.
Will the Orcs survive?”

Propel Man

Propel Man for Windows Phone 8

Another physics-puzzle-ish game in which you launch a guy out of a catapult. Then you’ll have to help him land safely by opening his parachute in time. I’m not digging the controls in this one, but I still need to play it more. Propel Man costs 99 cents and you can get it here.

Official description:

"PROPEL MAN LOVES TO FLY, COME JOIN THE FUN!
Use the Catapult to dispatch the Propel Man to dizzy heights in the sky and cross each level by landing safely past the finish line by deploying your parachute.

FEATURES

  • Realistic Catapult mechanics, Air resistance and Parachute handling
  • 30 levels with increasing distances and various obstacles
  • Shop with several upgrades like Laser gun, Rocket Boosters, Jet Parachutes, etc.
  • 4 types of catapults, 16 unique designs
  • A fun and catchy soundtrack to keep you entertained"

Ruzzle

Ruzzle for Windows Phone 8

A Boggle-style word game with online multiplayer.  Think of it as a 1- or 2-player version of Wordament. Ruzzle features Facebook integration, a single-player Practice Mode, and support for numerous languages, so it should do pretty well. It's also coming to Windows 8 - hopefully both versions can play against each other. It's listed for $2.99 and can be downloaded here.

Official description:

“Ruzzle is a fun and fast-paced word game where you can challenge your friends or allow an opponent to be chosen randomly. Who can find the most words in two minutes?

Find as many words as possible on a board by swiping your finger across the screen. The letters may form words as long as they are connected to each other. Nice audio and animations make it even more fun to play.

The matches are played in three rounds and the highest total number of scores wins.
The rounds can be played when it suits you. You can get going as soon as you have two minutes to spare!

Letter scores, word length and bonus pieces help you to collect as many scores as possible.
If you would like to practice offline, you can play matches in the premium version.”

QR: Ruzzle

Lots to look forward to

Clearly Windows Phone 8’s support for Native code and multiplatform game engines like Unity is starting to allow for a lot more games to come over. In-app purchases are another feature of the new OS and will be featured in some of the games above. We don’t have release dates yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as these titles become available!

Update: All but two of the games are available in the WP Store! We'll continue adding their links to this story as they come.

Microsoft releasing Temple Run and five more games today for Windows Phone 8 [Updated]

I swear if TR is only for 1GB devices i will go and buy a L810 or L920.. I love my L620, but can't afford missing all of the amazing games

No.. I am on T-mo so it will be either the 810 or the 920 unlocked.. AT&T is to expensive and I have AMAZING T-mobile coverage where I live.. But you are kind of right an Unlocked 820 will do it as well.. There are more shells available for the 820 than the 810.. Hmm got me thinking..

Well.. I had an L800 and sold it for $200 and I needed a fully unlocked device at that time. And the best option that I saw was the 620. Don't get me wrong aside of the RAM I am very very happy with the 620(posted a mini review of my recent trip to FL on the forums). It is the perfect size for me, its light, colourful, it has Micro SD expansion, and the battery is alright (not when used heavely though). But, these 1GB of RAM limitations are killing me sometimes. But, I think I can wait for the next big WP T-mobile device (Catwalk) to surface in a couple of months. Also, the 820/810 have the same storage as the 620 so it will have to be the 920 or nothing in this case. The only thing I don't like about the 920 is non-removable battery and size(though this is personal and do not consider the 920 bulky, sigh those complaints make me laugh lol). Otherwise is the perfect device.

Yes.. I get HSPA+ all the time, maybe sometimes when I am out of town, I get dropped to EDGE, but is still bearable sometimes.

I'm tired of these cartoon ass graphics. I thought WP8 devices had good graphic rendering capabilities. Will we ever get to see any of them?

OMG i knew it only for 1GB phones.. This is outrageous!! This game runs fine on low end android phones!!! Why can't it run on my 620!! T.T >ㅁ

Slowly but surely they're bringing the titles people say they can't live without. Good job Microsoft. You may move slowly but you've proven you're listening and finding ways to get these deals done. Thats all anyone can ask for when you're third in a cut throat market

"Can't live without temple run" - Unfortunately the way the news works these day, any title missing that's important to the blogger is a must have for the platform to be relevant. Controlling the perception in the media is probably more important than the end product right now for the WP ecosystem.Microsoft needs a one big app a week campaign. Line them up and every Monday dominate the first 5 minutes of the mobile news cycle. Pandora, Temple Run, Pinterest, Snap Chat, ...etc and just to say F-You bloggers Instagram with the rollout of new Hardware.

I'd love for a Halo tie-in game, much the way Coin Golf tied in with Fable 3. Earning gold in the phone game transferred over for use in the full game. I would love some kind of similar crossover for Halo.

No Halo plz ..
I am a huge fan of halo (I own all the games on my Xbox 360) but the game is best played with a controller and not with touch screen on a phone
MS should instead concentrate on bringing other games like Crackdown , Banjo Kazoie , Viva Pinata , Kameo , Forza horizon on WinPho

Tell that to Gameloft and their NOVA series which seems to be a top hit, or Modern Combat. Plus Halo is a vast world and can be used in other game styles with like Halo Wars. Just needs someone with imagination at MS but it seems they cant comprehend the unique treasures they have.

i think, and this is just an i think, that MS should add native support for their XBox controller to wirelessly connect to WP, would be pretty awsome imo

just bought the wireless controller for PC and connected it to the Surface RT and it is pretty danm awsome :D

You hit the nail on the head. They need exclusive games that they can't get anywhere else. Also, games that will pull the 50,000,000 Xbox gamers to Windows Phone. If we even got half of them, I think that would turn the tide and force developers to take WP seriously.

I agree. Microsoft could have just spent some of their marketing money making the "must have" app for this phone. A lot of XBox kids would want an effect XBox phone if it could play exclusive games like Halo on it.

Microsoft could charge 10$ for halo game, but people would still pay for it. Microsoft can't loose in the end

There are games that aren't nearly as popular as halo that cost $10. With a tie in to the actual game, that would be a good price.

So, are these the app Mr. Belfiore teased us about? Not a gamer myself, but happy for those who were waiting for it. :-)

God I hope not as these games are all pretty terrible. Temple Run is a perfect example of the idiot hype that made IOS a success.

It is sad that these are the things that can make or break a mobile OS. I know a person that returned his 8x because the lack of games.....

I think its just the nature of the beast nowadays. People have high expectations, for what a phone they are paying a lot of money to use, should do.

It's the ios disease... "there's an app for that" matters more than a great OS.
Apps are important, and necessary but people are shallow.

It is kind of old, BUT! Now we know there's nothing holding that dev back from porting Temple Run 2. If anything, I'd say the developer is just waiting to see how this title does.

At least we are now finally catching up on the games side. Now we need some exclusive titles and see some of these games take advantage of the cross platform environment in Windows 8/Xbox.  Then Windows Phone/Windows could become the best mobile gaming platform available. We need several Hero titles/franchises like Halo or GOW.

What we would need is syncron multiplayer based on xbox live. also agree with those famous xbox games you mentioned. guess microsoft could get some more people to work for them :)

Need more W8/WP8 marketshare. Depending on the games, not everyone that owns an XBox is interested in indie games from the arcade. What kind of playability are you going to have on a $60 XBox title on a phone? I can't fit every button on the screen and still see what's going on.

The main thing is that the percentage of people that own both XBox and WP8 is significantly small. Without charging two arms and a leg, it wouldn't make sense. Carriers really need to be behind the push since they have the most ability to sway someone when they are in the store. I got laughed at by every Verizon employee after the Lumia was announced and said I wanted to see the Trophy. I shut up and observed the salesperson work with my mom. It was pretty much "I think I want a smartphone" from my mom and "what color iPhone" from the rep...yes, I'm slightly overblowing it, but she didn't even show off Android let alone the Trophy.

Wacft the major reason for the failure of WP devices are the stores themselves... I went to a store to enquire about a Lumia 920... The reps response was don't even ask about it... 10 people purchased 5 of them returned the phone because they did not understand how to use it.... The store reps themselves ask you buy a stupid Android device... They say Galaxy Grand is better than the 920... This is the state of affairs in India... I believe it's the same scene everywhere....

which place are you talking about....i would rather walk into a nokia priority store than some local shop...

There's a lot of stupid things in India, but mobile sales isn't one of them.
The job of the rep is to sell the phone that works most profitable for him, and bases feedback on what the average customer says.

TRUE story in India ..
Last year I went to a huge retail shop named Reliance Digital to buy a Lumia 800 for my mom .
The rep there was just forcing my mom to buy that plastic shit Galaxy S2 giving some lame reasons like pirated games are easily available on Android while U have to buy games on WP .. Duhhh
My mom ultimately chose Cyan Lumia 800 and she is in love with it :D

India and China has some screwed up ideas of copyrighter stuff there.
Big Androi developer released info about the locations his apps were pirated and almost 85% of the pirated apps where from India and China.

Can't wait. Temple run indeed is a much awaited game but played with it in iOS and it quickly lost its appeal. haha

How many of these are free??? I wish Temple Run is free, it's not even an xbox live title. Sometimes it bugs me that some games that are free on other platforms are paid here (I dunno specifically which ones are free, but people do shout this)

I can tell you something. If someone spend hours and weeks on coding a proper game or recoding it for my platform than i am willing to spend the same amount of money i spend on a coffee or more for that poor feller

Most of the games cost lower than a burger at Mc Donalds .. I am ok with paying a dollar or two to help developers making more games

actually, you people are right, but well, I don't have a credit card and they don't support operator billing (India) :(
That's what keeps me from playing some really nice games out there. Further, if a game is free on other platforms, it should be free on WP too :P

I've noticed that most games cost the same on WP as they do on Android (not sure about IOS). The only difference is they offer free versions of the same game with huge full screen ads that will pop up mid game play. I would much rather pay to not see those annoying ads. But I do see how your situation is different, sucks they don't have carrier billing available for you.

Oh, I didn't know that the free games on android were also ad-supported (ad-suffered). Indeed, in-game ads are a major headache, though u can choose to not see them by switching off ur WiFi and/or data connection. :-) It works for some apps. :P

Yes! We are finally starting to build apps! But, the good thing is that when a good app is released on iOS and Android, sometimes we get it too, like The Dark Knight Rises and the Amazing Spiderman. And, of course, we will not get Temple Run 2, RIGHT NOW, but since the first one is close to releasing and based on the forums, it will be a big hit. So, the people at Temple Run will follow it up with Temple Run 2. Patience is key, as it is a matter of when, not if.

Great News!!! But i am very disappointed tha popular game titles like Temple Run are not Xbox live enabled!

No Achievements! NO BUY! That's that! Microsoft has nothing to do with these releases if they did then it's clearly a big fail on there part yet again to take advantage of there system. This issue is beyond fixing at this point! So much for saving Xbox Live on Windows Phone! Microsoft is still to many years behind the times, once they figure it out everyone will be 5 years older & won't care anymore.

All the power to the devs that won't take MS crap anymore & just release there games anyways! Clearly there are no issues with Google Play or iOS, so why waste the time with Microsoft? They just want to stick there hands in your pants anyways!

I feel your disappointment. I can't believe that none of these games have xbox Integration, especially Temple run ONE1! So much missed possibilities...

Agreed for the most part. However, some of these are free (Temple Run and Fling Theory are, at least).

I made an exception for Move it Like You Meme It! as well. That was because the developer has been extremely friendly and hard-working over on the forums, so I decided that alone was worth the $.99.

Yeah, 6 games that are big names on other OS's, and a lot of people have been asking for.

Yet you browse the comments and you see more complaints than anything else. That weird, annoying entitlement BS is yet another thing holding this platform back IMO.

Temple Run bores me to tears...... And the WP8 version looks dated! Absolute waste of time.... We get a crap looking 2yr old game WOW

One game and one app alone (instagram) is the cause of WP's fuss. Whats next after these two apps show up I wonder?

Well it's used to devices that essentially just power through what they need to do, so yeah it works, but I wouldn't call it optimized.

Hmm, no game that at first glance gets me exited. Feels great to get a little spoils.
Hey Paul, no mentions on the great adventure games from Artifex Mundi (Dark Arcana). They just released a new title and its the best one so far. The graphics are really color full and nice all around. Game is named Enigmatis The ghost....something something.

Im hooked on a feeling..ehe, I mean im hooked on these 3 games. The genera doesn't get some of the attention it deserves. I think these games, Wizards Choice, The Forgotten Nightmare are good examples on how good these games work on touch and mobile devises.
I hope you didn't get bored by the game :D

I admire Microsoft & Nokia for chasing the big apps/games, but I don't understand why Microsoft (who own Xbox) aren't releasing games like Forza and Halo on WP, giving Android and Apple users their turn to plead for apps/games.

MS could make a killing if they took advantage of the fact that they make the Xbox but for whatever reason, they simply aren't. Just think of all of the arcade games on the 360 that could be ported over to WP8 as well as original games based on existing franchises like you mentioned.

I know..... And all we get this week is The Sims Medieval (Nokia only), a £7 RPG and a gravity guy sequel...... Zzzzzzzz

Really!!? This is exciting! The only ones I know that are popular are Temple Run & Ruzzle. (I lost my iPod so Idk about the remaining ones)

No Xbox on Temple Run is enough for me to skip it. Very disappointing.
The other games have no appeal to me whatsoever. Lets hope more and better games keep coming.

I don't suppose everybody can afford it, especially the beta testers who live in expensive European countries like Italy who bought the Lumia 900 (unlocked) when it was flagship.

I wish we could just get games people are playing today. IOS and Android users are playing TR2 and probably not for much longer. All of my friends are playing the likes of letterpress and Space Team yet we'll never get those. WP needs the games that others are playing right now, not these 2 year old ports the world has moved on from giving 2 shits about. Same thing happened with Draw Something. By the time WP got it, the hype bubble had burst and no one cared. Half Bricks new game comes out for iOS next week, MS should make it a top priority for that game to come to WP before Android rather than sitting on their hands thinking that bringing old ass games is acceptable.

At this point I'd rather games come out in a timely manner and be relevant than be attached to Xbox where they're late. The only benefit is achievements but why do people care about those still? Xbox only gets in the way it seems and Xbox games have no universal leader boards and I don't have any friends that have a WP. Xbox certification also seems to get in the way of updates too. MS dicked over the 17 bit Studio team (Skulls of the Shogun) as they fragmented the release so you'd have to pay for each version (not what they wanted) and the WP8 version will unlikely see an HD update as answered in a Q&A on Raptr.

It does suck that TR isn't Xbox live enabled. I hope if they bring TR2 that it will. Xbox live support doesn't have to be req'd if they bring TR Brave and TR Oz

Is it just me or all the games on wp8 are downscaled in term of quality of image during gameplay. If you compare a game eg. angry birds on ios and l920 the quality/resolution on the latter suffers in terms of sharpness is a bit pixalated and blurry..n if you compare the size of the game it's way less than ios...anyways I'm happy that games are slowing coming to wp8

I love playing Jetpack Joyride on my Windows 8 desktop. And I would love more to have it on my WP8 too :-) and synced progress on the two platform would be an icing on the cake :)

I hope Temple Run was not the big news Belfiore was referring to. Cause getting a two year old game is not big news. I'm not sure why they couldn't release TR2 instead.

Why in the world are they releasing the outdated Temple Run 1? Pathetic.

Now, Windows Phone looks like a second hand platform.

This is not good news to me...there is TR 2, Oz, and brave. Why not bring those? TR 1 is old news to other platforms but new news to a platform trying to get ppl to switch? Oh well better late than never

Wow look at all the whining ungrateful children posting here.
Anyway, if enough people download and play TR1 perhaps the developers will bless us with a Xbox enabled TR2 down the road.  And we are getting Gravity Guy 2 before anyone else so there's that.

No one wants to be "blessed" with old, outdated games. People would gladly pay reasonable prices for current games that take advantage of the platform's features that willl show the devs they should bring more games to the platform. Check out Asphalt 7 for how its done, MP, great graphics & gameplay and all for .99. If all we ever get are old ports that arent Xbox enabled then whats the point of having the features on the phone?

Let me explain Why I wanna go to IOS. I have a Lumia 800. I agree that my phone is old, but even a old 3GS has temple run 2. I know that Windows Phone 7.X has the different core of Windows Phone 8. But I don't care, they could release for legacy devices. But, no, they won't do that.

Why applefags(fans) are considered a sheep? Because they know that Apple will never left them. Okay, IOS 6.1 doesn't offer all features in 3GS or 4, but at least apps are offer to all phones.

Windows Phone? What? First Microsoft left us, saying that we will not receive WP8. But I thought they will release a WP 7.8 that is kind of IOS 6.1 for a 3GS or 4, missed features, but will have a bridge to old phones.
What sad bet. Now I wanna buy any Iphone (I could even exchange my Lumia 800 to an old 3GS, at least I will get Temple Run 2, Instagram, Snapssed, New G+ and etc...
So Goodbye MS....

WP’s owners aren’t just missing out on apps, they’re also excluded from cultural relevance. Popular apps like Temple Run and Instagram are a shared experience that bring friends and strangers together.
Considering that a smartphone is a social and technological tool, missing out on social and technology trends kind of defeats the whole point.

...Until the next app comes out and people move on from that.  Or are you still playing draw something?

Spare me that tribalism nonsense.

The Lumia 800 was released in November 2011. First rumors of WP7 neglect came in April 2012. Official confirmation came two months later. In my case, it was too late. I had already bought the Lumia 900. I thought that Flagship iPhones get updated for three years. Flaghship Nokias, who knows...

It's not that i don't appreciate what microsoft/nokia has done, but if they want to compete in this super fast era i don't think by bringing dated apps is going to do much help TR in particula. People just don't play that anymore, bring us TR2 and nake us happy. Nevertheless, i am happy with their effort, but perhaps not their results

I'm actually kind of glad to see Temple Run being non-xbox-live. Granted, I would rather have the game with achievements, but it is also good to see Microsoft putting resources into getting games that won't be xbox live. There are a ton of games I would like to see on WP8, and plenty of them either wouldn't make sense as xbox live titles, or would be hindered by the process and restrictions that come with xbox live status.

The world will not end if we get old apps instead of new. But the OS is going to die slowly because people will not adopt it due to the lack of recent apps or newer games. If Microsoft wants to make any kind of signifacnt market step, they need to step up.

That's why I said its funny that people HAVE to have the newest apps for the os to survive, when the apps will only be used for about 2 weeks (games specifically)

So... this multi billion dollar, industry leading company is doing it wrong, and YOU (and a few others) know what's needed for it to "survive"??
Kinda delusional, don'cha think?

A few years back damn near EXACT same kind of thing was said about the XBox. This computer software company couldn't compete with Playstation, let alone nintendo. Look how that turned out.
I'm not on some fanboy stuff, but just think about that the next time you think you know what good for them to survive.

Once again I have to ask, are any of these games using native code, directx or middleware? Because if not, there's absolutely no reason to only release these games to half of the WP population. I understand that they have to push WP8 but MS created a bridge in code with the 7.8 SDK specifically so you can release anything to both platforms. Temple Run I can understand only going to WP8, but the rest? C'mon. I guess we're lucky they even gave WP7 a passing glance with 7.8...

Fling Theory is free to play but has in-app purchasing for the "full game", disable ads, and an expansion pack. Each of these is US$0.99, making the full game US$2.98.

Why release these games in huge clumps?  They can't even get on a weekly release schedule because they don't have enough games, so when they have a few finished games, why are they releasing them all at once?

EDIT: Oops, didn't realize that these weren't Xbox enabled games.

Is it so hard to enable the apps for all countries? I live in Malaysia and i cant buy any apps from the US market. Only free apps.

That means they would have had to code 2 versions of the game and they simply aren't going to do that for a small market share right now.

Can we get the Brave version of temple run and have that be an Xbox live game? I'd buy it right away, it just looks better and is a little nicer. Regular temple run isn't as nice to look at.

Cheer up Paul! Everybody makes a mistake once in a while and there is nothing wrong with that. It wasn't on purpose, all good.
Good stuff about that editoral someone should write :-)

Other blogs and new site are reporting this too at the same time as WPC had reported it. Praying the guys here won't get into any trouble

They should leave WPC alone since it's basically the only source devs have to contact WP fanbase. Kill the messengers and you only end up hurting yourself. :)

I'm glad the games came out, although I was hoping for some good apps to come out as well, like instagram, snapchat, flipboard,

Wow amazing! we've got Temple Run 1! I'm seriously mad and WON"T EVEN DOWNLOAD that game.
Seriously screw you Microsoft I'm tired of this bullshit. Too bad I like WP8 otherwise I'd just throw it in fire and switch to iOS because of two things I could be sure: I have the apps that I need THAT GET UPDATES UNLIKE YOUR APPS ('90)& They provide me updates.

So just to be clear, you'd be less mad (or not mad at all) if they brought nothing to the platform today instead of these games?

I would be less mad if they have a clear strategy along with his OS.
Let's pointed out:

First Microsoft is releasing games (except Gravity 2) that it was released before to major plataforms. I can't complain about MS, but I can complain about how is hard to develop games to Windows Phone. Microsoft not only misses a true policy with dev community but often made the process harder. Even Apple has more easier steps than MS.
Second, MS truly left the old customers. If they wanna be an alternative to Google, they should look to old customers. Okay, WP 7.X has limitations, but last Year those phones were there in stores, like a promise of a great overall experience. Right now, What I think, that I got a feature phone.

Then, I believe that I will go to Apple, best support, best apps, no lag, no malware...

Audibly said "holy shit!" when I saw this article. Not so much because I'm dying to play any of these games, but more because we're getting 5 games at once. That's to go with the pair of Xbox LIVE titles coming  Oh, and we've got 9 quality titles on-sale from EA for the week as well. Overall, it seems like we've got a great weeks of gaming for the platform.

Sadly, as expected, it's not shutting up the tears of the pessimists. I mean, we've got one person telling MS to go to hell when they announce one of the most-wanted titles, plus 4 others. Really, GAINING apps is a reason to run away from Windows Phone? People are whining it's not the second one, despite the fact that people were previously saying the sequel was an inferior game. There's just no pleasing a crowd of rabid whiners, it seems.

The one things that I will agree on is that it's kind of disappointing that these aren't Xbox titles. I guess it's not Microsoft's fault that developers chose against that feature (well, it is from the standpoint that it's a pain in the ass to get it added and certified), but that doesn't mean people aren't going to call it a "deal-breaker" or act as if it's the biggest crime in the history of gaming. I mean, in case those calling it so bad didn't realize, the entirety of the iOS and Android libraries are missing Xbox LIVE functionality, so remember that we've at least got the feature to SOME extent (and on some high-quality titles), which is infinitely more than what we can say about the competition. Microsoft could make the process easier, but they ultimately can't put a gun to someone's head and demand that it be added.

So, I'll wrap up by saying thanks to the developers who took the time to get these games out. I'll likely try each one, just because that's how I try to operate (support the indie developers with some feedback when I can). It would be nice if people showed some level of gratitude for the work that gets done on these games, but that's apparently too much to ask.

Well, I guess scratch giving them all a try. None have trial modes, so I can't try them before I buy them. I'll grab Fling Theory because it's free, then hopefully get to test the others when they get trial versions.

Listen i might not be in the majority with what im about to write but, Speak for yourself....i dont feel like im missing out on anything really, so they brought older games, big deal. So we dont have instagram, not everyone uses just most people recognize its value in bringing platform adoption, you make it seem as if everyone is a self entitled jerk. yes a smartphone is a social and technological tool, but it is social? windows phone has 2 of the largest social networks baked right in, granted it isnt as much functionality as a full fledged application (which you could download) but they are there. as a technological tool i dont understand how it isnt? internet browsing email text messages phonecalls video calls voicemail, calendars, task apps, calculator, what doesnt it do as a tool? all im hearing is and forgive me for the term is a bunch of whiners on this thread sounding self important... i need i need i need i need, give me a break.
