Official YouTube app for Windows Phone 8 gets a major overhaul too with version 3.0

Here it still shows version
I've downloaded and will check version 3.0. Though I must say...I doubt very much that it will be better than MetroTube.

Damn, hasn't quite made it to the UK yet, how is this compared to metrotube, does it bring better control over links to youtube within IE10?

it shows V3.0 on the web while in the Store, it's still V1.0. I installed it from the web and it installed V1.0...strange.. :-/   (India)

really? I can't find it on my phone. the web store shows it but not the Store app. well, lemme restart my phone.
Update: nope, not even after restarting :-/

it's available now. at that time, the web store showed V3.0 but when I installed, it gave me V1.0. anyway, I got V3.0 now from the Store app itself. :)

Everytime I open up the store page it wants to update me back and forth between 1.0 and 2.0... the store clearly has some problems lately

Not a bad effort at all. Still prefer metrotube but it'll be nice to not only have links open in a real app, but to be able to tell people we have a real app.

Wow, does that really happen in real life? Like do people really sit around compairing apps, and develop app envy??

Not talking crap, just asking.

I got prompted for an update but it sent me back to v1.0 , then another update back to v2.0.

Very strange, I think the store is having some issues

I'll say it again, fuck google. They've chosen their stance so I won't use their crap on my device.
Plus unless someone can tell me without a doubt it's better than Metro Tube then I really don't need it.

Its very fast, but at this point I cant say that its better than metro tube. Metro Tube is a highly praised app. The devs definitely deserve the recognition and loyalty. :)

How, not nearly as well designed. Metrotube has a pretty unique look, this one looks like parts of it were thrown together.

It says version 2.0 in the UK and last updated in 2012! Not sure if that's the same one everyone's talking about. Please advise...

So...i deleted the official YouTube app a while ago, because it was just a browser shortcut...but this update is VERY IMPRESSIVE! Of course I have to give Metro Tube their praises for giving me everything that I needed in a YouTube app! I hope we continue to support both. :)

You do realize it's a Microsoft app, yes? The only thing Google ever released for WP was a crappy search app.

II was about to comment, "you should thank MS not google" but uh, i guess yes we should thank Google for giving MS the permission so MS could do a great YouTube app

Is it just me or am i seeing a trend to WHITE backgrounds as of late. Twitter, new foursquare now youtube... what else?
Oh i am still waiting for some great games like tap tap revenge and candy crush (yeah yeah i know hit me with a mullet and an anvil for those haha)
So back on topic, I love this new version of youtube. It's now finally at par or at least nearing the perfection that is MetroTube!

Yeah, it's something wrong with the Store that jumps the versions all the time. I deleted mine again, restarted the phone, downloaded the app and got the right one. Now I got an update in the Store for the older version again, but hey...I got the new one and I am not updating it ;)

Play under lock screen? Yes! This will be great for when I'm listening to a lecture or long presentation that doesn't require watching the video.

Still waiting here in UK. Love the play under lock screen feature, looking forward to using that and hopefully there will be a Windows 8 version to follow for my Surface.

If this app is any indication of what Microsoft can do, I am looking forward to the next app releases. This YouTube app is great! It is better than the others that I am currently using.

Oh my gosh! This is such an amazing update. It's nice, fluid, and functional and as now an actual APP! The only concern is how I can check my YouTube e-mail messages (my inbox).
How do I go about doing this??????????

I installed it, got an update and now it is back to version 2.0.0. And in the store it says 2.0.0 too! Why do I always get those weird things -.-

Still showing version 1.0 in UK market after the update strangely, even when following the link.

It's just the direct link to the app in your store. So how could it show a different version from what you get by manually looking it up? oO Anyways, 2.0 over here in Germany. Waiting for the update to populate.

Tenho um Lumia 820, proceurei na store e apareceu logo para fazer update, deixa conectar com a minha conta do youtube e tudo.
I have an Lumia 820, just searched in the store and it show to update, I can connect with my youtube account also.

Any advantage to using this app over metrotube?  I hate to ditch a designer who has put out a good app for the platform well ahead of the official one unless it is dramatically better in some way.

Meh, cant reply to comments directly or access inbox, meaning ill just stick to using the mobile browser site

I know several other updates/releases have occurred lately, but was this the actual "YOU" Joe Belfiore was referring to?
Beautiful app nonetheless. :)

Will i be able to remote control the xbox youtube app with this version of youtube? I really miss that feature from the android version

Awesome guys, thanks MS, now if i could get the following that would be great. we need some apps so that we can get something done on the phone.
1) TD Ameritrade
2) PNC Bank
3) Mint
4) Citi Bank
5) Vanguard

Something odd just happened on my lumia920 in the uk
It showed the update as available so i went ahead and installed failing to notice the version number. Once installed i couldn't see any changes, its still a web app. Unable to find version number i headed over to the store to see what was available and it showed 1.0 version.
I then uninstalled the app completely and restarted my device. Went back to the store only to find version 2.0
So now i have no idea what version i have but i looks nothing like those pics. Stuck with a old version for now... Maybe its too soon for my region?

Exactly the same happened with my 920 here in the UK! Guess we'll just have to be patient!! Something i don't find easy :)

For those of you who aren't seeing the new version, uninstall the current, power the phone off and on. After doing this I immediately saw the new version.

Since this is done by Microsoft themselves, I hope the greater implication is that, in the next version, we will see scrolling available for the built in music / video player.

Why do we even need apps for Facebook or YouTube? Facebook is built into Windows Phone, and the mobile browser works fine for those websites.

Why did Microsoft even make these apps? Can't Google and Facebook make their own apps?

The Facebook functionality in Windows Phone covers the basics - your feed, friends' feeds, commenting and liking, sharing pics and links, etc.  However, there are a number of things you still can't do with the built-in functionality and that's where the app comes in.  Examples including tagging people on check-ins, deleting posts and comments, viewing pages for people or things other than your contacts, viewing groups, and viewing likes on a post.  There are more, those are just a handful of examples. Some of these things  should be added to WP (like tagging people on check-ins and viewing likes), but Microsoft never intended to completely implement all FB functionality in the core OS.  The same goes for Twitter and LinkedIn.
Google has refused to make apps for Windows Phone or Windows 8, so Microsoft took care of it for WP.  As for Facebook... who knows.  If I were to guess, they probably didn't want to commit resources to an official app for a platform without a lot of marketshare, but authorized Microsoft to do so.

Here's hoping for the following apps, games and updates!
Adobe Acrobat Reader and/or MS PDF Reader brought up to speed
Temple Run 2
Real Racing 2 & 3
VoIP in Facebook
An app for every major bank in the world, especially in Canada
BBC iPlayer (not just a glorified web wrapper, but a native app)

something strange here too. apparently i had 2.0 before, i then looked in the store earlier it said 1.0 now i've just had a notification of an update available, its now 2.0 ...
so where is 3.0?  UK here L820.

Try again in a bit and it'll prompt you to update... to 1.0. Happened to me a couple of minutes ago, lol.

I've just been prompted to install v1.0 again. Seem to be going in circles. Had 2.0, updated to 1.0, then updated to 2.0 and now its updated again to 1.0. Not making much sense...

Though I love the UI of metrotube I'm going to have to ditch it since you're only able to watch videos available on the mobile site and not the full site. Where Microsoft's youtube app and even tubepro allows you to...unless I'm missing something. But metrotube for windows 8 is still the best YouTube app on windows 8!

Going round in circles here. Keeps updating (and downgrading) between version 1 and version 2 - as tho, its in some kind of loop!

Dare I say it....I'm going to start using the official YouTube app???? You have now entered the twilight zone.

Holy crap! Its actually metro/modern! I just wish the home button would be smaller along with that bar at the top. That seems to becoming a recurring theme in official metro apps.

So delete metro tube wich occupies a ton of memory ( after a while u use it) and new official app yeah

can someone at WPCentral find out  what is going on with this jumping between v1.0 and v2.0 constantly?

I have a 620 and a 920, i tried to install it via the website, it is installed on 920 sucessfully while still show the old web-site version in 620, AM I IN THE SAME STORE? It couldn't be explained by the update time of different region.

Experiment by changing phones region settings n it will go 2 that version of the store but make sure it's n English region lol

Just tried the USA store, the UK store, the Portuguese store...ALL show version I managed to update to version 2.0...and then after a while it updated again...back to version 1.0

This is completely messed up. I wonder if Microsoft screwed up and released this 3.0 by accident of if Google was quick enough to force them to withdraw the new version.

(EDIT: had to go over to the German store to be able to get v 3.0)

Is it too early to ask for live streaming support? Or does any youtube app on WP has live streaming support?

I love metrotube, but being vulnerable to googles API makes it that much less appealing. I can't access previously made playlists and my top rated and most viewed are stuck in the past. Love this new official app!

I think it refers to the music + video hub in our OS, so we can save vids n it will show up in that particular hub

This is an incredible update. The app went from completely useless to top notch. All the features that are needed are there. I am still keeping metrotube as my primary youtube app, though as it does use a black background (which I prefer over white)
EDIT: Another reason I am sticking with metrotube is the fact that there's a size limit for downloads. Not sure if it's cummulative or for a single video, though.

Oddly enough.  I've found MyTube to be the new answer.  I'm not a fan of the white background in the offical app.  So for now I'll be sticking to 3rd party.

Installed fine and can log in but wont play videos? Keeps saying 'we weren't able to play this video, try again'. Says same thing on all videos... Any ideas??

Sorry, but if this app does still not allow uploads, the app is pretty worthless. I like watching videos, but I love creating them much more. If I cannot upload my videos from my amazing Lumia 920 (the camera is the best smartphone camera I've ever used), in HD to YouTube FROM THE OFFICIAL APP, then this yet another slap in the face from Google against Microsoft.
Time to give Vimeo a serious look, I guess.

Well, is there a way to create a live tile that shows subscription updates - as in MetroTube? If not, I won't be using it
