Peregrine updated: brings Pocket, Readability, Vine and Instagram support for your Twitter timeline

Peregrine for Windows Phone

One area that Windows Phone is equal to in regards to Android and iOS is the number of high quality Twitter applications. On all platforms there are a handful of excellent Twitter clients, both official and third-party for nearly anyone. Whether you’re a casual user just following the tweets of celebrities or a social media powerhouse needing advanced features, you’ll find a Twitter app for you. Peregrine is one of those Twitter apps on Windows Phone that is really, really good. The latest update to Peregrine makes it even better.

The last big update for Peregrine brought a really cool feature – the ability to stream tweets instantly. That was version 2.5, here’s what’s new in v2.7:

  • Added support for saving links to Pocket and Readability
  • View videos from Vine, Instagram, and many other websites from within the app
  • Several bug fixes

Around here we’ve recently been using apps like Pocket more frequently than before. Pocket is a service that lets you save articles to read at a later time, just like Instapaper and Readability. Peregrine supports all three of those read later services, you just need to navigate to the settings and log in. After that anytime you see a link in a tweet you might be interested in reading later you just need to long press it and mark it for later. It’s a feature that is really handy when you’re power browsing your Twitter feed and come across a dozen links that look really interesting.

In addition you can now view videos from Vine and Instagram within the app.

Interested in Peregrine? It’s free for both Windows Phone 7.x and 8. You can remove the advertisements with a $0.99 in-app purchase. Grab it in the Windows Phone Store, use the QR code below, or swipe to the right in our app.

How does that work if one tap is "open link" ? So before you double-tapped you alread navigated to the page. Touch'n'hold made more sense to me. You can also save links from the built-in webbrowser, so if you end up navigating to a new page, you can still save that page as well.

Because it's the best app we have of the service. I personally hate pouch but that's because I used to be spoiled with the official app

Checked it out, and I agree with you Sam.  This app has a really nice look to it.  I'm going to use it as my daily Twitter for awhile.  In the meantime, I flipped the 99 cents to the dev to support them.

this is my fav twitter app. after experimenting with them all...i found the right bird.

What with the number on the live tile, how about showing a portion of a last tweet from a timeline?

I played with this, and it quite frankly rarely made much sense, unless you only had one unread tweet (which is almost never for most people), so I decided not to add it to Peregrine

Other than the official Twitter app, is there other twitter app that shows tweet conversations? So far I can't find one.

Also play Vines from in the app and displays Instagram images which are saveable. IMO it's top 3 of all twitter apps and my go to one.

>first sentence
>implying windows phone sucks at everything when compared to android and ios except twitter apps.

I have tested most of the Twitter clients available for Windows Phone and I still think Mehdoh ranks tops
