PGA Tour leaves Nokia Collection, now available for all Windows Phone golf fans

PGA Tour for Windows Phone

What’s going to happen to all those Lumia exclusive apps in the Nokia Collection when Microsoft finalizes the deal to buy Nokia? Nobody knows at this point. But until then, a lot of you will just look forward to days like this when an app leaves the Nokia Collection and becomes available for everyone in the Windows Phone ecosystem. Which app jumped the fence? PGA Tour for Windows Phone.

We first saw PGA Tour for Windows Phone back in June 2012. The app joined Windows Phone via the Nokia Collection. Today, it’s been updated and is now available for everyone. We’re also seeing some new Windows Phone 8 features like a double wide Live tile and Lockscreen support. Here’s what you get with the app:

  • Scorecards for every player
  • Play-by-play from each hole
  • Player performance statistics
  • Video highlights
  • FedEx Cup Standings
  • News from the Tour
  • Live leaderboard for each Tour event

The 2013 PGA season may be nearly over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the app. This weekend you’ve got the Tour Championship in Georgia and next month The President’s Cup in Ohio.

Tell us golf fans, happy to see the app available for everyone? Sound off below.

PGA Tour for Windows Phone is a free app. It’s available for both Windows Phone 7.x and 8. Grab it in the Windows Phone Store, use the QR codes below, or swipe to the right in our app.

Thanks for the tip Kyle S!

I could see Sam chillin' with his Surface playing "Wolfpack Party" on loop while he counts his stacks of cash. #Hoss

Funny, I have had this app on my phone for probably 3 - 4 months now. My phone is the ATIV S. It is a great app though.

Interesting, did you use any of those tricks to get it or was it just available? Good to know. Maybe it was just some Windows Phone 8 features today.

No tricks or funny business with my phone :). Found it when I upgraded my old Focus in June. After this update the app finally uses the entire height of the screen, that's all I have noticed different so far.

Its actually one of the first apps I downloaded when I got my new phone. Its good to be able to follow the tournaments without having to wait for sports center at home. And it's completely about golf so you don't have to search through places to find it

Major upgrade with this update.
I used this app months ago, but I ended up just using the ESPN app because this was nothing special. Now it looks to have it all and more.
Worst thing about the previous version was how slowly it updated scores, so we'll see tomorrow how that works now.

I wonder what will happen to Nokia exclusives when Microsoft takes over next year - will there be a Microsoft collection or perhaps they will make all exclusives available to all handsets?

The one disappointment I've always had with this app is an apparent lack of Live@. Still don't see it post update.
