Weather Flow app removed from Windows Phone Store [Update]

98

Update: We have now received a note from Weather Flow's creator Gergely Orosz on why the app has been removed. In short, it's because of a lack of revenue due to his weather provider increasing its fees:

"My weather provider - Weather Underground - hiked their prices to a level where the app started making a significant loss that I couldn't fund after a while. Their weather data is expensive - $1,500 / month and the app was bringing in significantly less revenue then this, the last month it was $500, with the purchases also starting to go down. After a while the difference got too much to keep paying out of pocket without much hope of breaking even (not making a loss) again. Unfortunately weather data is expensive with lots of hits per day (Weather Flow was making almost 1M requests/day due to live tile updates) and I can't see a cheap or free, but decent alternative data source."

Original story: One of our favorite weather apps for Windows Phone, Weather Flow, is no longer being published in the Windows Phone Store. So far, there's no word on why the app has been pulled from circulation.

[Update] Microsoft Store demos of the Surface 3 are NOT appointment only

45

Update: Despite what we were told over the phone by a Microsoft Store rep, a company spokesperson has now contacted Windows Central to state that an appointment is NOT needed to demo the Surface 3 at a local Microsoft Store location. The spokesperson said, "We invite everyone to head to their local store to get their hands on Surface 3 and check it out for themselves."

Original Story: Some Microsoft retail stores in the US and Canada are letting patrons check out the just-announced Surface 3 tablet before it starts shipping May 5. However, you will have to schedule an appointment ahead of time to get to see the 10.8-inch Windows 8.1 tablet.

Microsoft has (inadvertently) killed the ability to move offline maps to storage cards

70

Back in 2013, Nokia released an app for their Lumia line of Windows Phones dubbed Lumia Storage Check Beta. This app was in addition to just Lumia Storage Check, which was the main build of the tool that integrated into Settings and was part of the original 1308 firmware release.

The main difference between the Beta app and main release was the inclusion of offline Map data control in the beta. This new function lets users move offline map data to their storage card at will. At least, it did.

Since then, Microsoft took the idea and built their system called Storage Sense into the OS directly for all phones running Windows Phone 8.1. Storage Sense is also now a part of Windows 10, even for desktops.

Gruesome action-RPG Binding of Isaac Rebirth coming to Xbox One

27

Roguelikes are an up-and-coming genre featuring randomized level design, permadeath (no continues), and a high degree of challenge. The Xbox One has a fine Roguelike to its name: the magic-themed first-person shooter Ziggurat. On the 2D front, the popular action-platformer Rogue Legacy is due out sometime in the future as well. Binding of Isaac is another extremely popular console Roguelike that has been MIA on Xbox... Until now!

After months of rumors, Binding of Isaac Rebirth from indie publisher Nicalis (makers of Castle in the Darkness and 1001 Spikes) has been officially announced for Xbox One! Mix The Legend of Zelda, a twin-stick shooter, and some gruesome imagery and humor into one awesome game and you have The Binding of Isaac. In addition to Xbox One, Binding of Isaac will also be coming to Nintendo Wii U, and New 3DS as well (it's already available on Windows PC and PlayStation consoles).

Don't know your Binding of Isaac from your Tie that Binds? Read on for a quick preview!
