Metro 2033 Wars – a post-apocalyptic strategy game for Windows Phone

22

Metro 2033 is a Windows Phone strategy game based on the Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel Metro 2033. The story behind the game places you in a post-apocalyptic world where global powers have unleashed their nuclear weapons, forcing thousands underground to survive.

The Windows Phone game has you gathering resources to survive, rebuilding communities and battling mutants throughout the metro system. Metro 2033 Wars is available for low-memory devices and has over 170 metro stations to explore and over 70 missions available to tackle. First impressions of Metro 2033 Wars are nice but the game may be better suited for longer gaming sessions than shorter bits.

Highs and Lows Part I: Are Low-End Windows Phones Hurting Microsoft's Smartphone Brand?

410

"Why don't Windows phones have front facing cameras?"

This was the question posed by my 14-year-old niece from the back seat of the car on Easter Sunday. She will soon be the recipient of a Lumia 635 Windows Phone. Good news right? Well, kind of. The device will be passed down to her from my nephew, her 18-year-old brother who after a second brief stint with Windows Phone has returned to team iPhone. So much for family loyalty.

He does leave these parting sentiments in praise of the Windows Phone UI, however. Windows Phone is fast, smooth and never hangs. Yet, he refuses to hang around. So why no selfies with the Lumia 635 for my teenage niece and all those selfie loving types? Well, what happened was...

Pocket Casts for Windows Phone: Now available to supercharge your podcast experience

186

Having made a name for itself on Android, iOS and the web, wildly popular podcast app Pocket Casts is now officially part of the Windows Phone stable.

I'll confess something. I listen to a lot of podcasts, but I nearly always avoid using my Windows Phone to do so. Why? Because I've used and enjoyed Pocket Casts on other platforms so much over the years that I could never feel as comfortable with something else. And there are some good apps to choose from.

Now, Shifty Jelly, has brought it to Windows Phone for the first time. It was teased a short time ago but as of today it has officially launched in the Windows Phone Store. And it's a good 'un.

Review: Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for Xbox One

Is this former PSP game another shallow HD cash-in? Or a hint of greater things to come?

Final Fantasy Type-0 began life as a Japan-only PSP game set in the Final Fantasy XIII canon. Eventually the project span out into its own identity, yet still carrying remnants of the Final Fantasy XIII mythos.

FF Type-0 was well received in Japan, selling almost 80% of its shipments in the first week. Famed Japanese gaming outlet Famitsu gave Type-0 39/40, praising the story and gameplay but, Famitsu also gave Final Fantasy XIII 39/40, a game that I unashamedly loathe. Will I loathe Final Fantasy Type-0 in kind?

All you need to know and expect from Microsoft Build 2015

158

Starting tomorrow, 9am PT / 12pm ET / 4pm GST, Microsoft is kicking off their annual Build conference for developers. Once again, the three-day event is taking place in beautiful San Francisco, California and this year looks to be its biggest yet.

Traditionally, Build has always been for and about developers of Microsoft's various platforms, from Windows, to Azure, to Windows Phone, and Xbox. This year Microsoft looks to expand that to HoloLens and the Internet of Things (IoT) as well.

However, the consumer story is always in the background. Sure, on occasion Microsoft gets on stage and announces "new" devices like the Lumia 930, the Lumia 1520 in green, and the Lumia 635. However, more often than not, the software is the focus and not new hardware. Case in point, Microsoft pre-announced the Surface 3 weeks ago instead of waiting for Build.

As Mark Guim and I prep to fly out tonight to San Fran, let's break it down what we should hear over the next few days.
