Deccan Chronicle

Deccan Chronicle is the third largest English newspaper in India in terms of readership and circulation, and very popular in South India. The publication’s official app has now arrived on Windows Phone.

While the app gives you free access to all content, including news, photo galleries, and opinion columns at Deccan Chronicle, it disappoints in user experience. Honestly, I’ve seen better mobile websites.

For reading news, the design is functional and intuitive, although it borders on amateur. Everything else unfortunately is a painful exercise. When you attempt to post a comment, the app introduces an ugly and disconnected UI. If you’d want to share a news article via Facebook or Twitter, you’d have to tap on the link embedded in the article, and use browser based sharing! It’s a shame that the developers have not used the well-conceived native sharing feature of Windows Phone.

Deccan Chronicle

Download the app for Windows Phone 7.x and Windows Phone 8 devices here from the Windows Phone Store. Get it if you swear by Deccan Chronicle, else give it a pass and choose from a variety of Indian news apps in the store.

I prefer Bing News on my Windows Phone, as well as on my Surface. Which is your primary news app? Tell us in the comments!
