Dell reveals its first HDR 4K monitor

It's clear that HDR (high dynamic range) content is the next frontier in picture quality, and Dell is now ready to throw its hat in that ring with its latest monitor. Dubbed the UltraSharp UP2718Q, the 27-inch 4K monitor represents Dell's first with support for the HDR10 standard. (via The Verge)

The monitor boasts a peak brightness of 1,000 nits and Rec2020 color coverage, which should be welcome from video editors. Dell is also boasting of the UP2718Q's coverage across other color standards, including 100 percent Adobe RGB, 100 percent sRGB, 100 percent REC 709, and 97.7 percent DCI-P3. The real draw, however, is that HDR10 support, which will allow the display to produce wide contrast between deep blacks and bright whites with compatible content. The UP2718Q will be available from Dell in the U.S. on May 23 for $1,999.99.

Dell also took the chance to unveil some more modest monitor offerings alongside the UP2718Q. The 25-inch U2518D and 27-inch U2718Q will be available in "mid-July" for $499 and $699, respectively with slim-bezel InfinityEdge displays.
