The upcoming reboot of the DOOM first person shooter franchise will enter a new stage of its development on Friday, October 23. That's when the closed alpha multiplayer test will begin for the game on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms. Developer id Software and publisher Bethesda Softworks have released some new footage showing off what players in that closed alpha can expect, and it's appropriately bloody and fast moving.
The people who get the chance to play in the DOOM closed alpha test are the ones who redeemed their DOOM Beta codes when they bought Wolfenstein: The New Order way back in 2013, along with people who pre-ordered or ordered the game digitally through May 26, 2014. The DOOM closed alpha test will consist of one map (Heatwave), one mode (6v6 Team Deathmatch) and a handful of weapons and power-ups from the full game.
People who get picked for the DOOM closed alpha test will have to agree to an NDA that will keep them from revealing any content from the test, so this footage may be the only way non-testers will get to see what will be included (barring any illegal leaks of course). Bethesda does plan to hold more closed alpha tests in the future, before the full-fledged beta test begins for the game. The final version of DOOM will be released in the spring of 2016.
