Microsoft's official launch trailer for Gears of War Ultimate Edition on the Xbox One will bring back some memories for people of the original Gears of War release for the Xbox 360. The trailer uses the somber version of the song "Mad World" that was also used in the popular commercial for the original Gears of War's launch back in 2006.
"Mad World" was originally a song from the UK band Tears for Fears that was released way back in 1982. In 2001, the darker and stripped down version was released by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the movie Donnie Darko and it became a cult hit, and it reached a new audience when it was used in the official Gears of War launch commercial.
That same song is now being used again for the Gears of War Ultimate Edition launch trailer, which showcases the updated graphics and cut-scenes that have been incorporated in this remaster for the Xbox One. The game will launch on August 25. Microsoft has also announced that people who purchase the game before December 31 will be able to get all four Gears of War games (Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 and Gears of War: Judgment) for the Xbox 360 for free. Those games should be available to play on the Xbox One later this fall via its upcoming backwards compatibility feature.
