General Electric makes its Predix industrial platform available on Microsoft Azure

It has been announced that General Electric's own Predix industrial software platform is coming to Microsoft Azure. Already available on Amazon and Oracle competitor cloud platforms, this is an important signing for Microsoft to bring its own offering up to speed with the market and position the company as the ideal partner for businesses.

Predix enables companies to build and develop industrial applications. As detailed in the official press release, Microsoft intends to make other extensions to its Azure platform, including Office 365, Cortana, and Dynamics compatible with Predix. Satya Nadella commented on the announcement:

"Every industry and every company around the world is being transformed by digital technology. Working with companies like GE, we can reach a new set of customers to help them accelerate their transformation across every line of business — from the factory floor to smart buildings."

A developer preview is set to be released towards the end of 2016, and Predix on Azure will be commercially available by the second quarter of 2017.
