GoPro updated on Windows Phone, adds ability to view photos, playback video and more!

GoPro for Windows Phone 8

GoPro is one of the hottest companies out there in the action camera space. You could even argue that they’re the action camera. The Windows Phone GoPro app was teased at CES 2013 and finally launched in May of the same year. An update to the app, this last November, introduced support for the HERO3+ camera. Today we’re getting a very big update to the official GoPro app that will make a lot of you with GoPro cameras very happy. Changelog and details after the break.

GoPro for Windows Phone has been updated to version 2.0.28.0 and introduces the following features:

  • NEW View photos and play back videos
  • NEW Copy photos and videos* to your phone, then share via email, text, Instagram, Facebook or other app
  • NEW Browse and delete files on the camera’s memory card
  • NEW Use the GoPro App to wirelessly update your HERO3+ camera software
  • NEW Use the GoPro App to wirelessly update your camera Wi-Fi network name and password
  • Full remote control of all camera functions
  • View the GoPro Photo and Video of the Day

The biggest complain about the GoPro app on Windows Phone version has been addressed with the latest update. You can now view photos and play back videos that you just shot directly on the app. You can also browse and delete files on the memory card inside your GoPro. Furthering the control of your GoPro with the app is the ability to wireless update the software on the HERO3+. Plus tons more!

Huge update for GoPro fans on Windows Phone. What do you think of it? Like it or love it? Is it still missing some features you’d like to see? Sound off below!

Thanks for the tip Keith H!

It's about time. I'm super excited, as I use my GoPro on a weekly basis. This will make things way easier. Before the update, you couldn't use 1080p Superview, because the viewer in the app did not support it. Now I don't have to film in 1440 and stretch in post. :)

Oh, hello new internet dictator! That comment was quiet funny. But it doesnt matters. That is called freedom of speech.

Well I'm glad they updated it, but I'm stuck using the old version since they increased the requirements to devices with 1GB of RAM.  What a bummer that is.  I was so excited, but I have a 520.

The old version needed 1GB ram as well; what are you on about?

Before this update I wanted it on my 520 and it wanted 1GB, so only can you it on my 1020.

Interesting.  I have the official GoPro app installed on my 520 and I have used it many times (including a few days ago).  Maybe I still have an very early version that worked on 512MB.  This is the first news of an update I have seen and I was excited until I saw the 1GB requirement.  Obviously that 1GB requirement was added at some earlier version.  I supose I'm lucky to have a version (although limited) that I can use on my 520.  Yeah, I'll go with that.  Glass half full.

Yes, about time.  Was a PITA to have to hook the damn camera up to the computer to do simple photo/video management.  The app is stil not up to par with iOS and Android but at least we get some real functionality now.

It asked me to rename the wifi network and reenter password... After that the pass is not working. Worse is that i cannot update the fw through the site because is not available in my country (romania). Bummer...

now that tony bates is in charge of this gig, will we see updates again? after all this was the guy who being a MSFT employee couldn't get skype on windows phone 8 to be on par with what he was doing elsewhere until Ballmer threw a chair on him or something.
