Prepare for animations as GroupMe for Windows Phone gets updated with GIF image support

GroupMe

GroupMe is a popular group-messaging app from Microsoft, enables you to communicate with multiple contacts at once in chatrooms. We previously covered version 4.7 back in December, which introduced a new group design. Today, we're looking at yet another update, bringing GIF support and more.

Here's the full change log for version 4.7.1:

  • View images and GIFs shared via URL in the chat
  • See which of your groups are muted
  • Hide Direct Messages
  • More bug fixes and improvements

GroupMe

We've used GroupMe when covering events and for general discussion and found it to be invaluable when needing to get hold of one another while mobile. It's a sweet service, available cross-platform, offering a free way for colleagues or friends to remain in contact.

You can download GroupMe from the Windows Phone Store for free.

No. We shouldn't add every fucking thing we can think of right into the OS. Why not take all the 200,000 apps and integrate them into the OS?!

Sorry the comment isn't totally related but I don't know why Microsoft hasn't leveraged its assets like groupme and its former messenger to improve Skype. It seriously needs push notifications and adding contacts using phone numbers.
Skype can become something that can be like imessage, hangouts, whatsapp/viber and facetime on top of itself.
This will allow seamless messaging and calls between windows phones (maybe other os as well) free, automatically.

Anybody facing yellow tint on images taken from camera app ? The bloody tint is ruining the image clarity :( despite updated the device to GDR3+Black.

God damn it. This isn't the first time they broke pins . And they only update the app like once a month at most. While they update the iPhone and android like every week.

I don't know about recently, but last year it was definitely very rapid updates. WP would be once a month, sometimes once every two months.

I am hoping they build Groupme & Skype into WP 8.1. Groupme functionality in WP Rooms would be a godsend, you could finally message groups without them needing to be using WP.
