Hands-on with the Nextbook Flexx 10 2-in-1 Windows Tablet

Nextbook recently announced the Flexx 10 and Flexx 11, two new affordable 2-in-1 tablets, and while they may not pack the highest specs they are worth a second look. At an event in New York City, the company had its new units on display, giving us a chance to see what they are all about. Could a $178 2-in-1 really be worth purchasing? Let's find out.

Let's start off with this; you won't be gaming or editing movies on these things, but if that isn't what you are interested in, then continue. Both the Flexx 10 and Flexx 11 were on display, but we got to check out the Flexx 10, which is the smaller less powerful variant. It comes equipped with a 10.1-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. As we said, not the best, but it was very crisp and did the job. Inside there is an Intel Atom Quad-core 1.8GHz processor with 2GB of DDR3L RAM. Nextbook has included 32GB of on-board storage in this model, with the ability to add 64GB more with a microSD card.

Also, they have included all of the standard goodies like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, front and rear-facing cameras, and a micro HDMI port. The Flexx 10 has a 7,000mAh battery built in, and the device weighs less than three pounds. Being a 2-in-1, users can opt to either use or remove the keyboard, making it an even better value for the money. The keyboard was adequate and felt pretty good after just a few minutes of adjustment.

Now, onto the actual performance of the Flexx 10. Like I said previously, you won't be doing anything too memory intensive, after-all it does only have 2GB of RAM on board. If you are looking for something to check email, browse the internet, send a tweet, and keep up with your family on Facebook, this is a perfect candidate. When using the touchscreen the device felt very responsive, launching apps quickly, and moving between programs was no issue.

Nextbook includes a free year of Office 365 with the purchase of either tablet, and both will receive the free Windows 10 upgrade when it becomes available. Overall, the Nextbook Flexx 10 is a pretty solid 2-in-1 for those who aren't looking for top of the line, and are on a budget.
