HDFC Bank, one of the leading private sector banks in India, updated their official app earlier this week.
The last update v22.214.171.124 came along the sidelines of the launch of HDFC Bank's Go Digital campaign in Varanasi in December last year, where they announced the Bank Aap Ki Muththi Mein (Bank in your hand) offering that aims to turn a mobile phone into a bank branch. As part of the campaign, the next updates were to bring over 75 transactions to the app – by far the widest range of transactions conceivable.
The latest update – v126.96.36.199 – has taken a long time coming, but adds a lot of new features like allowing you to generate your mPIN instantly from the app. This version offers several features upfront, before a customer logs in with his/her bank credentials.
You can locate HDFC Bank branches and ATMs near your location with just the tap of a button or manually specify a city and area to get a list of branches and ATMs there. Similarly, another button offers you a list of exclusive credit card and debit card offers on shopping, dining, movies, and entertainment at merchants near you – nicely laid out on a map. The app also allows you to apply for loans, insurance, and credit cards.
As an HDFC Bank customer, I use the app several times a week, and it's a pretty good app offering comprehensive capabilities at par with or better than other mobile banking apps in India. With the latest update, the app brings a lot of non-transactional capabilities, and you should definitely give it a whirl.
