Here's what's new in the latest HP Elite x3 firmware update

The HP Elite x3 recently snagged its third firmware update since release, but it was unclear what was new at the time of release. While there was initially no detailed list of changes provided, we've now received a full changelog of fixes and known issues in this latest release, which ticks the firmware version up to xxxx.xxxx.0018.0105 from xxxx.xxxx.0014.0100.

Without further ado, here's a look at what's fixed, along with the known issues:

Firmware xxxx.xxxx.0018.0105

  • HP Display Tools error popup of "We can't run that here" is fixed.
  • HP Device Hub support of accessories firmware upgrade is enabled.
  • Handsfree double talk tuning parameters updated.
  • QR code not recognized by certain apps such as Whatsapp, WeChat, is fixed.
  • 3G support for 2nd SIM card is enabled.
  • Device crash on repeated refresh of certain web sites such as att.com, yahoo.com, is fixed.
  • Network registration status shown on Action Center pull down.
  • Known Issues:
  • Skype for Business app cannot be launched from Continuum external display.
  • LAN port of HP desk dock does not have UI configurations.
  • Too many failed unlock attempts, the device will be locked for security reasons. User can unlock the device at https://account.microsoft.com/devices.

Alongside the list of changes for the latest release, we also received the changelogs for the previous two firmware releases. In case you're curious about what was included in those updates, we've included the changelogs below.

Firmware xxxx.xxxx.0014.0100

  • High Brightness Mode is enabled when brightness setting is in default suggested.
  • Reset Protection feature is enabled. However, existing user must reflash device with this software with Windows Device Recovery Tool (WDRT).
  • Instagram app having green lines during use is fixed.
  • HP Display Tools launch inconsistently on docking is fixed.
  • Headset detection not reliable is fixed.
  • Auto focus performance and stability in low light conditions are improved.
  • Preview screen banding pattern seen is fixed.
  • Video recording after tap pause/resume few times got message of "something went wrong" is fixed.
  • BitLocker Recovery blue screen on reboot with device encryption enabled is fixed.
  • Tap to wake feature mistakenly turn off display is fixed.
  • Windows Hello Iris unlock, followed by swipe to unlock quickly leads to error prompt is fixed.
  • Fingerprint and Iris being setup one after another, one of them will not be functional, is fixed.
  • Known Issues:
  • Skype for Business app cannot be launched from Continuum external display.
  • LAN port of HP desk dock does not have UI configurations.
  • Settings tile missing with update. User can go to app list, touch on Settings icon and select pin to start to restore the tile.
  • Messaging 2 tile becomes blank with update. Touch on the tile once will restore it.
  • Too many failed unlock attempts, the device will be locked for security reasons. User can unlock the device at https://account.microsoft.com/devices.

Firmware xxxx.xxxx.0007.0088

  • HP 12C Financial Calculator app is added.
  • HP Display Tools app is added.
  • Tap to wake feature is added.
  • Windows Hello Fingerprint support is added.
  • Starbucks app issue of unable to sign in is fixed.
  • Remote control apps (Project My Screen, Team Viewer, etc) having display corruption are fixed.
  • IP calls audio quality is improved.
  • Image quality is improved with tuning updates.
  • Recording in low light conditions stability and performance are improved.
  • Preview screen banding pattern issue is reduced.
  • Slow motion video stability is improved.
  • Auto focus does not work sometimes is fixed.
  • Cellular network settings no longer display incorrect option labels. **
  • Bluetooth reliability with car kits is improved. **
  • Repeated docking and undocking with HP desk dock, the issue of device reboot is fixed.
  • Display half has raster pattern sometimes when device resumes from idle is fixed.
  • Display brightness adjusts automatically when go from bright to dark place and vice versa.
  • System performance is improved.
  • 16 apps can run in the background.
  • Wi-Fi during use, the issue of device reboot sometimes is fixed.
  • Windows Hello Fingerprint sign-in to not work when media was playing or a calendar/alarm reminder was up is fixed.
  • Iris enrollment sometimes caused device reboot is fixed.
  • Known Issues:
  • Skype for Business app cannot be launched from Continuum external display.
  • LAN port of HP desk dock does not have UI configurations.
  • Banding pattern is seen on display and with camera preview.
  • Settings tile missing with update to this release. User can go to app list, touch on
  • Settings icon and select pin to start to restore the tile.
  • Messaging 2 tile becomes blank with update to this release. Touch on the tile once will restore it.
  • Tap to wake feature will mistakenly turn off display. This will be addressed in future update.
  • Too many failed unlock attempts, the device will be locked for security reasons. User can unlock the device at https://account.microsoft.com/devices.
  • Fingerprint and Iris being setup one after another, one of them will not be functional. The suggestion is to setup one type, then reboot the device and setup another type.
