ICYMI: August 29, 2015

A lot can happen in a week. Seven days might not seem like much, but it can be an eternity in the tech news cycle.

Between Windows news, hardware and software developments and Microsoft's fast-paced movements throughout the technology landscape, it's never easy to keep your hand on the pulse of technology. Not to mention everything that's going on right here at Windows Central!

The number of people running Windows 10 just keeps growing. Just over a month after its launch, it is on over 75 million devices. That includes over 90,000 unique PC and tablet models.

Windows Insiders in the Fast ring were treated to Windows 10 preview build 10532. Here's what's new and what's broken in the new build, as well as a look at what's changed in Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 preview build 10532.

It's hard not to get excited about Windows 10 given its new look and features. However, it is important to point out that upgrading your PC might not be a good idea at this time. If you are considering an upgrade, be sure to read our 14 reasons why you might not want to.

And lastly, happy birthday to Windows 95. The iconic operating system turned 20 years old this week. Despite hitting the one-fifth century mark, many of its features are still alive and well today, even in Windows 10.

After disabling some of its features last year, Microsoft announced that it will be shutting down Groups in OneDrive completely on October 16.

The public beta of Cortana for Android went live in the US this week, letting you replace Google Now as the default assistant. We took Cortana for a spin to see how she measures up her Windows counterpart.

It looks like Office 2016 for Windows will be released on September 22. In the meantime, Microsoft updated their Windows 10 Office Mobile suite, although they didn't include a changelog.

We also got word this week on some new hardware that Microsoft is working on. One device is a tablet cover that combines a keyboard with a touchscreen.

Another report claims that Microsoft will put out a 12-inch and '13- to 14-inch' Surface tablets.

One thing that we know they won't be releasing is a so-called "Xbox One Mini." Microsoft's head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, said over Twitter that tiny console was "not real.".

Back at E3 2015, AMD showed off Project Quantum, a miniscule concept computer that packed a whole lot of power under the hood. PC World got their hands on one of the PCs and showed us just what makes Project Quantum tick.

VMware released Fusion 8 and Fusion 8 Pro, which let you run Windows on your Mac. The new version not only supports Windows 10, complete with Cortana, but brings with it better 3D graphics rendering with OpenGL 3.3 and DirectX 10 support.

The IDC predicts that personal computer sales will continue to dwindle through the rest of 2015 and even through 2016. Free operating system upgrades, smartphone use, and the rise of "good enough computing" all appear to be contributing factors.

And finally, Google made things right by fixing the bug that caused the 64-bit version of Chrome beta to crash on the latest Windows 10 Preview build.
