Next week's Mobile World Congress 2015 trade show in Barcelona, Spain will be the place for Kyocera to show its first Windows Phone 8.1 prototype device. The Japan-based company has yet to offer any more details on the product.

Kyocera is best known for selling its ruggedized Android smartphones in the US and Japan, so it's more than possible that the company plans to show off a rugged prototype using the Windows Phone OS. While we have seen rugged Windows Phone devices released in the past, such as the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-E1, it will still be interesting to see what Kyocera brings to the table.

The company also plans to show off some other prototypes and concepts during MWC 2015, including a smartphone with a unique display that doubles as a solar power-collecting screen. Windows Central will be at the trade show with first-hand reports from the event next week.
