The Microsoft Band 2 got some new features today, via a software update, and a Microsoft employee has posted some more information on two of those additions: music controls and inactivity notitifications.
The employee posted his note on Reddit, revealing that music controls were actually ready for the launch of the Microsoft Band 2 earlier this year, but the team decided it wasn't ready for prime time yet. He added:
"For the Music Controls UI, We had to come up with something that was accessible from anywhere on the band, at any time. The design phase was over 4 months of prototyping and design sketches. Ideas included swiping up from the bottom of the screen while exercising, to having it off to the left inside of tiles similar to the Start Strip peak. We eventually decided upon the double button press, but the issue we then faced is that this is 100% non-discoverable! This lead directly to creating the What's New tile."
Also, there was the thought that inactive notification could be handled by haptic feature only but that was nixed due to the fact that there are already a number of features that use haptic and that it might become harder for the user to distinguish between many different types of patterns.
We already did a hands-on with the new music controls embedded above or you can read that article found here.
