The Microsoft Lumia 435 and its box

The newest entry-level phone is now available from the UK's Carphone Warehouse for the absurdly-low price of just £29.99.

If you've been looking for a cheap way to get in to Windows Phone, or just a cheap spare to have around or something for the kids, the Microsoft Lumia 435 from Carphone Warehouse might be just the phone you're looking for. Available for pay-as-you-go plans on Orange, Vodaphone, O2, T-Mobile, and Virgin, the phone clocks in at as low as £29.99 (or £39.99 if you need to get it with a new SIM).

For comparison's sake, that's right around US$46. At that price it's obviously not a high-end device — the 4-inch display has a resolution of 800x480, the processor's a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200, there's 1GB of RAM (hey, it's not 512MB), and 8GB of storage plus MicroSD expansion. And the cameras? The rear's a mere 2MP and the front's a little VGA shooter. But it runs Windows Phone 8.1 and our own Richard Devine reviewed the Lumia 435 and found a phone that's capable, compact, and affordable, even if it does have some trade-offs.

Sure, it doesn't have all of the speeds and feeds. But it's also less than £30, and that's just insane.
