Well, looks like my 600-word piece – Hey Microsoft, when in India? – was just in time as Microsoft makes amends. Right after the official announcement of the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL at the Windows 10 Devices event in New York City, the two phones are listed on the Microsoft India website as 'Coming Soon.'
The two phones will be available in Dual SIM variants. There's no indication of the availability date or the price, though. Maybe we can guesstimate the price and place bets. The unlocked Lumia 930, for example, was sold at Expansys in the US for $699 and was priced at ₹38,649 at launch in India. The Lumia 950 will retail at $549, and the Lumia 950 XL will retail at $649 in the US. While you make those conversions and calculations, note that the dollar rate in India has been going north since last few months.
Also, there's no mention of the Lumia 550, the budget Windows 10 Mobile device that would be a critical device for the Indian market. The Lumia 550 would be available in December, and hence is still not listed on the site.
This observation is interesting. Listing the two flagships before the Lumia 550 when there's only a month between the availability might just mean that the flagship Lumias might just come sooner than one would expect. While the November availability is still towards the end of the festive season in India, but even if it arrives in the month, it would be a pleasant surprise. Check out the listing here.
Would you buy the new flagship Windows 10 Mobile devices? Which one of the two is your pick?
