Last week, Microsoft released a new firmware update for its Microsoft Band fitness device. It's main feature was to link to the golf-based updates for the Microsoft Heath app. As it turns out, the company managed to sneak in a small but welcome feature as well: emoticons.
Before last week's firmware update, any text messages sent to Microsoft Band owners did not display emoticons if the sender included them in their chat. However, a couple of Windows Central readers have set us word that, since the firmware update, the Band now renders those emoticons on the display, which we have since independently confirmed.
While this is a small addition, it shows that Microsoft continues to include some nice new features in its Band firmware updates that they don't officially announce.
Thanks to Jonathan and Brian for the tips!
