Microsoft has announced that it will make upgrading to Windows 10 a tad easier for small businesses and organizations later this month through the Get Windows 10 app. While the app has been present on most consumers' Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs for a while now, business users haven't yet had the option to upgrade from the Get Windows 10 app.
As part of the process, Microsoft says there are a few conditions that devices must meet before the option is enabled:
- Running and licensed for Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8.1 Pro
- Configured to receive updates directly from the Windows Update service (i.e. updates are not managed by WSUS or System Center Configuration Manager on those devices)
- Joined to an Active Directory domain
IT administrators who want to control the upgrade process themselves can opt out of having the Get Windows 10 app run on employee computers. Similarly, Microsoft says the app will not be rolled out to large corporations who are running Enterprise edition or manage updates with their own tools.
