Microsoft now hides your IP address by default in Skype

Skype has been criticized for displaying the IP address of accounts on official clients, but Microsoft has finally now taken steps to hide said details from public view by default. This mainly affected those who played games online and streamed on various platforms, receiving harassment due to IP addresses being publicly available.

While it was recently made possible to hide the IP address in Skype, it's good to see Microsoft implement measures to prevent it from being accessed without having to configure settings.

"Skype is fully committed to delivering as safe and secure of an experience as possible to our customers. We have recently introduced the ability to hide a Skype user's IP address and we've set this as a default status in the latest versions of Skype. Starting with this update to Skype and moving forward, your IP address will be kept hidden from Skype users. This measure will help prevent individuals from obtaining a Skype ID and resolving to an IP address."

If you happened to be on the receiving end of online harassment like the plague of DDoS attacks affecting gamers, this latest Skype update should hopefully add another layer of protection.
