Microsoft completes the family, releases Xbox One SmartGlass for Windows 8.1

Xbox One SmartGlass

Microsoft today released the Xbox One SmartGlass app for Windows Phone, but lo and behold the company has also pushed out the same solution on Windows 8.1. Should you have the next-gen console on pre-order and are eagerly awaiting its arrival by getting your home and technology ready, you'll definitely want to have this app downloaded.

Just like the Windows Phone counterpart, Xbox One SmartGlass brings the following features to Windows 8.1 hardware:

  • Navigate your Xbox One console using your device’s keyboard and touch
  • Control your media and set top box with the SmartGlass remote control
  • Browse the web on your TV using your mobile device
  • Enhance what you are watching or playing with SmartGlass companions
  • Increase performance with faster connections and reliability
  • Search, browse, and pin content to play on your Xbox One console
  • Track achievements, get game help, message friends, and watch game DVR clips

You can grab Xbox One SmartGlass from the Windows Store (requires Windows 8.1 - also available on the Windows Phone Store if you're on a smartphone, QR code below). Thanks to everyone who tipped us!

I would like this app integraded just like smartglass for Xbox 360.
I install it and it show an app, while the smartglass for 360 is show on game hub.

As someone who doesn't play mobile games I prefer it as a stand alone app, but see why others would want it in games. Maybe MS thinks it'll be used more if it is in the app list instead of in games?

On, semi off topic question. Can I download the day one patch before release day? This will prevent hug server overload, and I could pop it on to a memory stick.

Yes it is, what about people who can't speak?... Personally I still find it awkward talking to my phone lol.

Don't know if you're joking or not, but I do have the same problem loads of times. My home screen is very organized color-wise. I totally flip out when an app changes its color and f%ck$ up the harmony. OCD much...

So, I download the XB1 Smartglass app, get through the activation and setup and the brief tutorial but get this .... IT WON'T CONNECT TO MY XBOX!. I thought the XB! Had widi and an improved Kinect that would work before the Xbox was unbowed. Jeez I am so returning this as soon as it's delivered and I try it out. Oh well, back to waiting for my tracking numbers to update.

As the name indicates, the Xbox One SmartGlass app is designed to connect to an Xbox One, which has not been released yet. Why would you expect the Xbox One SmartGlass app to connect to an Xbox 360?

Man, sometimes I wish SONY made the XBOX and MS it's software and services. That thing is way too fricking BIG!

I don't suppose you are aware of the recent issues with the ps4? :P. The xbox one is, for some of us nostalgic as it reminds us of the old VHS / Beta Max days.

Yes, I am and know none of them involve overheating. It doesn't really matter. Sony just makes sexier and better hardware period. Out of everything MS makes, the XBOX thing is the unsexiest of them all, to me, a sexy ZUNE HD owner.

Don't give me that they need that extra space. The PS3 had the power brick inside as well and XBOX 360 outside, and yet if it wasn't 3RRODs, it was one BIG RED ONE! Sorry, I just really hate that everything about it is just humongous. The box, the Kinect, and that 19th century power brick and cords. We're in 2013, not 1900s here.

has anyone managed to get this app to connect to their XOne yet, mine just says no console found and input the IP address and that doesnt work either. The WP8 works fine though??? help please

edit. Nevermind, i changed the console to a wired network and not the wireless and it now works. dunno why.
