Microsoft has released a new video today in which some of the developers and researchers behind the Microsoft Band give some background on the features included in the wearable's most recent update released earlier this week.
Front and center is the ability to use the band to quickly reply to messages. In the video, the developers talk about their favorite new features such as the keyboard and voice responses. Asela Gunawardana, a senior researcher at Microsoft, even recounts a story in which one of their testers felt that the keyboard on the Microsoft Band worked better than the one on his phone.
The video also goes into detail about some of the design decisions behind how the keyboard works. Microsoft researcher Vishwas Kulkarni explains that they chose not to show letters as they are typed because they wanted to "maximize screen real estate usage for the keyboard." Instead, users get visual feedback as they type something, then the band uses machine learning to guess what has been typed so far.
Overall, the video is a pretty neat look into what went into the features in the latest update. For more, be sure to check out the video above. And if you'd like to check out the keyboard in more detail, take a gander at our hands-on.
