Microsoft's Surface 3 tablet has been on sale for a couple of months, and now the company is pushing the use of the 10.8-inch tablet to students in its latest TV commercial. The ad, which is definitely going after the "back to school" shopper, shows some examples of how the Surface 3 could replace a regular laptop.

The commercial shows how the touch version of OneNote is used with the Surface 3 so students can keep taking notes in a classroom while the lecture itself is being recorded by the app at the same time. It also shows how the optional Surface Pen can be used to not only write handwritten notes on the tablet's display but also turn those notes into text. Finally, it shows a music student composing a tune on the Surface 3 with the StaffPad app.

Back-to-school buyers can purchase the Surface 3 with Windows 8.1 pre-installed, but Microsoft says that the tablet will be sold with Windows 10 out of the box "soon".
