We’ve had some isolated reports this morning that myTube, one of the more popular premium YouTube apps for Windows Phone, has gone missing in the Store. With all the brouhaha between Microsoft and Google, it doesn’t take too long before people start wondering if a cease and desist is the cause of the app being pulled.
No worries, fellow YouTubers. The app was deliberately hidden due a bad XAP being accidently uploaded to the Store. The developer, Christopher Blackman, reached out to us to explain the situation.
“I made a pretty terrible mistake and uploaded the wrong XAP for myTube to the Store (version 126.96.36.199). lots of functionality in the app will be missing and I've decided to hide it from the Store. The biggest missing functionality will be the background audio feature, and support for 720p screens. I've submitted another update to fix it which should be certified in a few days.”
So what to do? If you haven’t updated, then don’t (though with the app hidden, you shouldn’t be able to) and if you did, you have two options:
- Wait until the updated XAP goes through; We’ll tell you and the app too will notify you when you open it (clever)
- Open the application bar menu and join the myTube beta, which is a fun thing to be a part of
So all in all, an inconvenience but no worries as myTube will be in action soon enough. Stay tuned.
