Every weekend, Windows Central streams an Xbox One game or two on Twitch for 1-2 hours and gives out free games to the cool people who join us during the stream. It's like a live podcast, only you also get to watch a game while chatting with our awesome readers and viewers!
Tonight we played Neverwinter from Perfect World Entertainment. Neverwinter is a free-to-play MMO based on Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. We also gave out promotional codes to help players get into the game. Read on for quick impressions, contest winners, and the full video replay!
The first true MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) for Xbox One, Neverwinter launched in March 2015. Since then, Perfect World Entertainment has supported the game with a steady stream of updates and expansions – all for free. A huge adventure awaits...
After watching a brief intro, players begin by creating a custom character. You choose from 8 races, with a few additional races available for purchase with premium currency. Next choose from 8 classes, customize your hero's appearance, and select a few background details. At last your adventure will begin!
As the game begins, your character wakes up on a shore after a shipwreck. He or she will quickly become embroiled in a conflict against the forces of evil. Naturally this involves some basic tutorial quests such as rescuing injured soldiers and recovering arrows from deceased ones. Before long, you'll escort a healthy warrior across a bridge as an army of monsters besieges it. The trip ends with a battle against a huge boss creature. Finally, you'll arrive in the first hub city, and the tutorial comes to an end.
Neverwinter plays quite well on Xbox One, with a clever radial interface providing quick access to various attacks and abilities. The combat involves plenty of hacking, slashing, and dodging – standard action-RPG stuff. Outside of parties, text chat facilitates communication (a great use for the Chatpad). Upon teaming up with friends, you'll be able to use voice chat.
Be sure to watch us play Neverwinter, and then give the game a try. You won't find a bigger or better free-to-play MMO on Xbox One.
We streamed Neverwinter for ~90 minutes. During that time, we gave out out a total of 10 Neverwinter promotional codes for Xbox One and one full game code for Clash.
The Strongholds Promotional Pack contains:
- Dragon Bone Weapons or Eternal Armor (Level Scaling, Class Dependent)
- 10 Strongbox Key
- 4 Stronghold Chest of Campaigns
How to watch Twitch livestreams
What's the best way to experience Twitch? The Twitch website on your PC or Mac web browser. If you don't have or prefer not to use a computer, you can get the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or Xbox 360 Twitch apps and watch from the comfort of your couch. Android and iOS both have official and unofficial Twitch apps to choose from as well.
On Windows Phone, you'll have to grab an unofficial app. There are several to choose from, each with different strengths and weaknesses. Only one app lets you search directly for our channel, though. If you use the others you'll have to find and follow us from a web browser first. Read the roundup to learn more!
Want to know what's next for Windows Central's Twitch programming? We stream a different game every Saturday. The stream always starts at the same time: 8pm Central (9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific, 2am GMT).
