Nokia Collection for Windows Phone
When Nokia entered the Windows Phone market, one of their strategies to attract customers was to provide exclusive apps and games for their Lumia Windows Phones. While other Windows Phone manufacturers offer similar collections of apps, the Nokia Collection is by far the largest offering.
From Xbox Live game titles to camera apps to utilities to news apps, the Nokia Collection adds to the attraction the Lumia Windows Phones have.
As of December 2012, Nokia has over 50 exclusive apps and games available to those with Lumia phones.
Zinio is a popular digital newsstand service and a Windows Phone 8 app has been in the works. A few days ago, Zinio snuck in under the radar as an exclusive for the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices.
Zinio connects you to stories on current events, politics, technology, style and more. Plus it gives you an app to file under the "Z" alpha-tab.
It’s a bright and cheery Monday, at least here in New York, and what would a day going by without some Nokia updates be? Boring, is the answer. Luckily we have two so far, albeit minor ones that should make sure your Lumia is performing in tip top shape.
Nokia has pushed out a number of updates for Windows Phone. The apps affected are Nokia Music, Access Point and Network+. Unfortunately we don't have a change log for any of the three apps, but we imagine each release contains minor improvements. It's been a while since we've looked at both Access Point and Network+, but the Nokia Music+ service has been rolling out in multiple markets.
The Nokia ESPN Hub app, available exclusively in the Nokia Collection, has been updated to version 2.6.67. The latest release introduces a number of improvements that will help users further customise the experience, as well as being notified on news and scores.
Ah, Chillingo. Where would Lumia owning gamers be without you? Just a couple of weeks ago, the indie-focused arm of Electronic Arts published a pair of new Nokia exclusive Xbox games: Dream Track Nation and Tiny Plane. Those ports are a little rough, but the developer PowPowGames already has patches on the way. Besides, more Xbox games is always a good thing, especially after that drought we suffered at the beginning of the year.
Now Chillingo is back with two new Nokia exclusives for Windows Phone 7 and 8, each coming from a different developer. First up is the creatively named Storm in a Teacup from Cobra (makers of iBomber Defense), followed by Vampire Rush from Lithuanian developer A-Steroids. One game will be a hit, while the other seriously needs some work. Make your guesses about which is which and then head past the break to find out the answer!
The popular Tunein Radio app for Windows Phone 8 has been updated (or so it seems) with some minor alterations. It's a strange release, as the version number reported on the store listing is 2.2, but the app is reporting 2.3. If you're up on your Tunein Radio knowledge, you'll know that we covered the version 2.3 update back in December. So what's new in this "latest" build? Well it's not good news if you're a Windows Phone 8 owner.
Zinio, a popular digital newstand service, has announced they will launch a Windows Phone 8 app that will be an exclusive for Nokia Windows Phones.
Zinio already has apps for Android, iOS and Windows 8 platforms. The Windows Phone 8 version of the app is expected to debut a new look and feel that is optimized for the smartphone experience.
Remember when it was teased that The Sims Medieval will be available on Windows Phone for Nokia hardware? It appears the time has come as the app is now presently listed on the store. So what's The Sims Medieval all about? If you're not familiar with the video game series, players are tasked with entering a virtual world and controlling "sims" as they go about their daily lives. It's an incredibly popular brand on mutiple platforms.
Windows Phone 8 has received so much Xbox game love this week (in the form of The Dark Knight Rises and Shark Dash) that Windows Phone 7 owners were surely feeling left out. I mean, they should all be busy with Galactic Reign, but that’s another story.
Apparently someone at Nokia saw the lack of releases for the legacy OS and said, “No! This should not be.” To that end, Nokia and Chillingo have just published two Nokia-exclusive Xbox Windows Phone 7 games: Dream Track Nation and Tiny Plane. Both games look like great casual titles to keep Nokia owners busy.
