Nokia overhauls Glam Me self-shot app with loads of new features

We’re not entirely into the idea of “selfies” aka the practice of photographing yourself and posting it to social networks, but we know many people are these days. Nokia released their Glam Me app earlier this year after a Mobile World Congress announcement for this exact purpose, hopefully appealing to the youth crowd. The app is for taking self-shots but it has the added bonus of an onboard editor for making your face all pretty-like.

Nokia just pushed out version 1.5.5.12 of the app today and boy did it get a makeover itself. The app now has numerous new features that are really interesting, even if you have no plans for a “selfie” anytime soon.

Nokia Glam Me

The full changelog of Glam Me is listed below:

  • Self-portrait with the main camera as well as the front camera
  • Smart Light that automatically enhances the light quality of your picture when you’re using the front camera
  • Improved adjustments: slim face, eye brightness and contrast, smile enhancement
  • Enriched high quality artistic effects
  • Higher photo resolution to 1080P
  • 51 languages supported

The ability to now use the rear camera in addition to the front should allow those Lumia 1020 owners some nice HQ images, especially when combined with the new 1080P resolution support. More importantly, it allows those with a Lumia 520/521 to get in on the action—see what they did there? (Hint: Those devices don’t have a front-facing camera.). When combined with the timer, you can easily pose and snap a pic with either option.

The Smart Light feature basically augments the ambient lighting around you, which is very helpful when in a poorly lit area. It works surprisingly well and is akin to the “enhance” feature in some photo editors but is live.

Other additions include more face adjustments (including making your face less chubby) and supplementary artistic filters.

Glam Me from Nokia is a fun little app with some impressive photo trickery on board. Even if you don’t have any immediate plans to use it, it’s a fun app to toy with, plus it should be a hit with the young crowd.
