Nokia World 2013

Nokia World 2013 is the yearly event where Nokia showcases all of their upcoming latest and greatest hardware, software and services.

For 2013, the event is being held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi. Occurring on Tuesday, October 22nd, the event is expected to attract thousands of media and the techno glitterati for two days of mobile excitement.

This year, the expectation for Nokia is set high with the rumored Lumia 2520, their first Windows 8.1 RT tablet, and the Lumia 1520, Nokia’s first foray into the 6-inch phablet category. In addition, rumors of a Lumia 1320, a few Asha devices and new accessories for their Lumia phones have been making their rounds.

Nokia not only announced new products and accessories at Nokia World 2013, the company also unveiled some new software features - one being Nokia Refocus. The app enables you to capture an image, much like you would with the Nokia Camera app, with the ability to alter which elements of the photo are in focus afterwards.

While Lumia most definitely stole the show at this weeks Nokia World 2013 event in Abu Dhabi, there was more to see than just Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone devices. Nokia also introduced a new range of Asha devices, which while not exactly what we're in to, does have a pretty neat and unique feature. And that, is the dual-layer polycarbonate shell. And it rocks. We know there's at least a few of you out there that wanted to see this, so we grabbed a couple of photos to try and show it off.

Announced at Nokia World, three new popular titles land for Windows Phone

While Nokia World was highlighted with the Lumia 1320, 1520, and 2520 announcements there was a few new apps revealed as well.

Three of such are now available in the Windows Phone Store. All three are freebies and all three are for our Windows Phone 8 devices.  All three apps make a very nice first impression and we'll take a closer look at each in the coming days.  In the meantime, here's a short description on each.

Nokia's next update, titled "Lumia Black" (Bittersweet Shimmer) is set to bring yet more features to the table. If you're a fan of the Glance screen, this will be an update for you. Destined to ship in the coming weeks, Lumia Black will improve the Glance feature, a screen that becomes active when the Windows Phone is in standby mode. The improvements will include background support, more colours and support for more notifications.

Those of you who reside in the US and have your eyes glued to the screen to figure out where they will be able to purchase the Lumia 1520 will be able to blink now. AT&T has officially announced the company will be the exclusive carrier of the Windows Phone. Already rocking AT&T's 4G network? Good stuff, you're all set for a 6-inch Windows Phone experience.

File this under the coolest thing we’ve seen today: Nokia Beamer.

Beamer is Nokia’s upcoming app that takes its lead from PhotoBeamer, an app currently available to Lumia owners. PhotoBeamer allows you to create a QR code to share photos with other devices. Nokia Beamer goes further and lets you mirror your Lumia’s display.

Nokia World 2013 has been a whirlwind of announcements, one of which was Nokia's new Storyteller app. Available in both Windows Phone and Windows 8.1 form on the newly announced Lumia devices, Storyteller takes all your photos and organises them for you automatically, using HERE maps data to categorise them. It'll even try to select the best photographs for you, trying to eliminate those blurry shots no-one wants to see.
