Notes 4U, a simple note taking app for Windows Phone is today's AdDuplex HERO App

If you are looking for a lightweight Windows Phone app to use for quick note taking situations, take a look at Notes 4U. The app has a simple interface, some nice core features and it's a free title in the Windows Phone Store. Notes 4U also comes in as one of this month's AdDuplex HERO Apps.

The HERO Apps program is a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex Network and partners AdDuplex with myAppFree, AppDeals, PluralSight and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month. Our role in the HERO App campaign is to offer a little exposure to these titles by sharing them with you, our readers.

Today the spotlight focuses on Notes 4U from Clever Software.

Notes 4U

Coming in at 2MB in size, Notes 4U is a lightweight Windows Phone app for jotting down quick notes. Notes 4U includes:

  • Support for OneDrive backup and restore
  • Live Tile support for pinning individual notes to your Start Screen
  • Tag Support with the ability to group notes by tags

With Notes 4U, you will have unlimited note-taking ability with a relatively simple user-interface. The main screen for the Windows Phone title has a hamburger menu in the upper left corner that will reveal options to view all your notes, view your notes by tag and access the app's settings. Settings are minimal and cover setting up your OneDrive backup or restoration.

To create a note, just tap on the "+" sign off the main menu. The note creation screen has a title field and text field with four control buttons resting at the bottom of the screen. These four buttons allow you to delete the note, share the note, change the font size and save the note. If you want to pin the note to your Windows Phone Start Screen, you can find that option under the three-dot menu off the note generation screen.

Font sizes are limited to small, medium and large with each tap of the control button toggling through those sizes. To use tags, you will have to first create a tag list by going to the Tag menu and begin the creative process. Add a title to your tag, and then create the tag in the body of the screen. Tag formats are in hashtag format and to tag a note, it can be added anywhere in the body of the note.

Notes 4U

Notes 4U isn't a very complicated Windows Phone app for jotting down a quick note. The app could do a better job of walking you through the tag and note creation process, but the user-interface isn't very difficult to pick up. A help section would be a nice touch, however in five minutes most can figure out the interface.

Overall, Notes 4U is an attractive Windows Phone app. I wouldn't mind having the ability to add photos to your notes and the OneDrive support is a nice touch to back things up. The Live Tile support makes it easy to pull up, view or edit your notes.

Notes 4U is a free, ad-supported Windows Phone title and a nice option to consider if you are looking for a simple note taking app.
