According to data released by data-tracking firm The NPD Group, Microsoft's Xbox One console was the best-selling console in North America over the month of October 2016. This marks the fourth consecutive month the console has dominated sales, outselling the PlayStation 4.
The following statement was provided by CMO at Xbox, Mike Nichols:
Thanks to the passion of Xbox fans worldwide and their continued excitement for Xbox One S, Xbox One was once again the best-selling console in October in the U.S., U.K. and Australia according to NPD Group and GfK Entertainment. Xbox One has been the best-selling console in the U.S. for the past four months, and in the U.K. and Australia in each of the last two months.
This continues to mark an uphill trend for Microsoft, with sales figures keeping Xbox at the top since the release of the Xbox One S. This has also been aided by the launch of several highly anticipated titles this month, including Battlefield 1 and console exclusive, Gears of War 4.
Full NPD results will be released next week, with a closer look into sale figures. It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft can uphold this lead going into the holiday season, with the launch of the PlayStation 4 Pro.
