Outlook 2016 for Mac begins rolling out support for Google Calendar and Contacts

In a stew of cross-platform goodness, Microsoft has announced that it is now rolling out Google Calendar and Contact support to Outlook for Mac. This brings the Mac client closer in line with Outlook on other platforms like iOS and Android, which also provide ample support for Google accounts.

From Microsoft:

Outlook for Mac has long supported connecting to and managing your Gmail. With these updates, Outlook will now also sync your Google calendars and contacts. The experience will be very similar to what you are familiar with in Outlook today, with support for all the core actions—such as add, delete, edit time and location. All changes will update back and forth with Gmail or Outlook for iOS and Android, so everything is in sync across all your devices.

This announcement, like most, has its caveats, of course. Support isn't widely available just yet, as Microsoft wants to solicit feedback from Fast ring Office Insiders first. The rollout is set to expand to more and more insiders over the coming weeks ahead of a general release sometime "later this year."

If you're already a member of the Office Insider Fast ring, you can simply check for updates in Outlook to see if this latest batch of features is available for you now. If you're not yet a member, you can sign up by heading to Help > Check for Updates, checking the box to join the Insider program, and selecting either the Fast or Slow ring.
