Putt in Golf - Review

7.1.M is offering a really nice looking putt-putt golf game for your Windows Phone. Putt in Golf is an 18 hole, miniature golf game for the Windows Phone 7 platform.

While not an XBox Live game, Putt in Golf will allow you to upload your scores to an online leader board to see how well you've done against other duffers.

Fore!

Putt in Golf places you in the middle of a miniature golf course that is choked full of challenges. Controls are simple. Tap and hold your golf ball and a directional arrow will appear. Slide your finger back to determine how hard you want to hit the ball and when you're satisfied release your hold and watch the ball go.

You can rotate each hole to read the greens from various angles. It would have been nice if you could have rotating to see an overhead angle or lower your perspective to see things closer to ground level. Regardless, the graphics on this game are outstanding and gives the game a realistic feel.

The object of the game is the same for any golf game; knock your ball into the cup in the fewest amount of strokes/hits. To help keep things lively, Putt in Golf has three game modes.

Normal: This is your traditional game of putt putt golf. Just get the ball in the hole in the fewest amount of strokes.

Obstacle: Same game as normal but insanely difficult obstacles are placed on each hole. Timing is just as important as gauging angles and distance to the hole.  Oh and I did I mention that these obstacles move?

Trophy: Same game as the Normal but you have golf trophies scattered about the hole that you have to hit with the golf ball as you proceed to the cup.

In addition to the three game modes, you also have an Easy and Hard setting. The Easy setting has the directional arrow to help you aim and judge the power behind your stroke. The Hard setting takes the directional arrow away and you have to gauge direction and power by feel.

Game play was enjoyable and once you get a feel for the green speed (a little slow in my opinion) the game flows nicely. The Obstacle Mode can be brutal and I would recommend getting used to the game with the Normal Mode first.

Overall Impression

This is the first golf game I've tried on Windows Phone 7 and I liked it. Graphics are very good, controls are easy to use, and the three game types kept things interesting.

For those who like a challenge you have the Hard setting that takes away any directional or power indicators. This helps put a new twist on the game, especially in the Obstacle mode.

Putt in Golf has a lot to offer for those looking for a golf game for their Windows Phone. The only thing missing is the windmill.  There is a free trial version that lets you play two holes in each mode and difficulty. The full version will run you $1.99.

You can find Putt in Golf here (opens your Zune desktop) at the Marketplace.
