Roku for Windows Phone (and Windows 8.1) has a new update. The official Roku apps launched for Windows Phone and Windows 8 this past June. Recently the apps have gained a substantial update that adds a handful of new features like search capabilities and a channel store.
Head to the Windows Phone Store and you'll see Roku at version 220.127.116.117. Here's what's new in the latest update for Roku on Windows Phone and Windows:
- Added search
- Added channel store
- Added Play on Roku capabilities
- Now works with Roku TV
Search is self-explanatory, but you might not be familiar with the Roku channel store. The Roku channel store is where you'll browse for and install channels like HBO GO, Watch ESPN, FOX NOW, NHL, Netflix, Hulu Plus and more! You'll also find hundreds of other channels though they might not be as well known.
We don't have a Roku around to test the update, but we just ordered one and can't wait to play with it. We want to test the new 'Play on Roku capabilities' added in this update because it sounds a bit like Miracast magic. We're imaging the ability to mirror content from your phone to your TV thanks to Roku. Anyone with a Roku is welcomed to comment on the update and what it adds.
Finally, some new TV's have Roku built-in; the recent updates works to ensure the apps are compatible with those sets.
Grab today's update and let us know what you think of the changes.
Thanks for the tip Brian!
